It is garbage; good description, actually. Had a taster sized pour at Jungle Jims' Barrel Aged Beer Bash and it was a total mess. I love blueberries, stout, and bourbon, no doubt too.

I wouldn't worry too much as it's not an Imperial Stout or a "juicy, hazy" DIPA. Old Ales just aren't that cool, bruh!

But yeah, I'm with you in anticipation of that one. Just don't tell anyone which barrels they use- neckbeards might get slightly excited.

Actually, now that you bring it up. Anyone remember what Barrels they use for KBS?

This batch of Creeper is perfect. Less booze (than Oct) and more fruit. I would definitely advise picking up a 4pk.

I am so confused by BrewDog's existence here, not to mention their size and apparent popularity. I have never had anything by them, never seen any of their bottles in person, and never heard anyone talk about them or their beers...except for that one publicity stunt bottle, which is all I'l say about that.

They are big in the UK/Europe, and the beer people have tried in Columbus has been good(so I have been told), even if nothing is brewed on premises yet.

A few hours ago the Heinen's Green Road beer guy told me 5 cases of KBS on Wednesday late morning/early afternoon. I am only the messenger in case that's erroneous too; plus he's putting aside a four pack.

I'm still so surprised so many people go crazy for KBS every year. I mean barrel-aged Stouts are all over the place constantly now and even coffee or chocolate or vanilla or any other adjunct type of barrel-aged Stout is on shelves all the time anymore. Plus we have Jackie O's, Wolf's Ridge, etc making insane BA beers that are better than most distributed beers. Plus High West-ified was amazing for a much better price too. /endrant

While I agree with your point on Jackie O's (not so much on West-ified but that's a personal preference), I am not sure why Wolf's Ridge is mentioned here. We can't get their barrel aged stouts without going to a release in Columbus. I know most people have gotten over KBS; I'd say I have too as I stopped chasing it 4-5 years ago. However, I still think it is a fantastic beer and I will argue that it is better than most offerings we can normally find on the shelf (except for more Jackie O's). Some of that could be nostalgia, but it is truly one of the classics to me.

Classics die hard. BCBS, Parabola, KBS. The reason so many breweries are doing these now is because the originators did them so well, and continue to.

There's nothing like seeing how it was done when it wasn't en vogue, even if it varies batch to batch, and then seeing how relatively great they still are.

That being said, I think some people need to cool off on the chase, but still, there are always plenty of others who either can't get enough of it, or really haven't had it yet, being new to the craft world and hearing about it over and over again.

At the end of the day, I guess I just don't see why anyone has an opinion on what someone else chases... Or what anyone else values vs what they value, etc.

If it's a beer you want, go find it, if it's not, stay home or grab something else you'd prefer.

    Yep.

Not to justify the chase because I think there are several reasons KBS is still really popular every year. Price per ounce it beats a lot of BA beers (about half as much as Jackie O's, and that's coming from a Jackie O's fanboy), the volume is one of the largest of any BA beer in the country, and it's consistently amazing. There is NO other barrel aged beer in the country that has the volume and consistency of KBS. That fact is truly remarkable IMO.

BCBS is probably the closest, but we've never gotten it in Ohio so it's kind of irrelevant to this thread, and of course they've had infection issues recently. High Westified and SMS are both great barrel aged coffee stouts, but they're not nearly as consistent and good as KBS. I've had some bottles of both of those beers that rank up there with KBS and some that didn't. I've NEVER had a bad KBS.
