That sounds like an AWESOME day, buddy. Next time I get to Dayton to visit Mom, I need to put the arm on my baby brother and make the trip.

Hi all you Sunday new beer drinkers. Getting a late start today because a buddy of mine was able to hook me and a couple of friends up with a round of golf at the local country club. It was a really nice change a pace for a couple of guys who usually play the local 9 hole muni.

Since I only have a chance for a beer or 2, I decided to make it a big boy:

    Funky Buddha Wide Awake

This beer pours dark black with a huge dark tan head that lasted a little while.
Smell is all maple at first, followed by coffee and a hint of caramel.
Taste follows the noise with a strong sugary maple flavor, then some coffee and maybe mocha with a small taste of caramel.
This beer is smooth and pretty thick for a porter. Very small amount of carbonation,
Overall I really like this beer. If you are a fan of sweet big dark beers, give this a try.

Agreed that trying to come up with and enforce a good system would be damn near impossible. But we could try common sense.

Ok, nope. I'm gonna stick with impossible.

By the way, one example of vintage beers they do "allow" on the site: Brouwerji Rodenbach

I am all in favor of the commission of felonies to acquire, send, or taste great beer.

I gotta get to Jackie O's. For real.

I admire and appreciate your dedication sir! I'm still working on committing myself (and a full Sunday) to those 'big boys' you sent. Tempted to do the Darkness bottle followed up with the BA version but I'm having a hard time breaking the seal on either! Next Sunday I'm going to enjoy one of them. There, I'm committed so it's going to happen!

If I can make a suggestion, share them. That is what BIF is all about, IMHO.

Finally beer:thirty! Work has been crazy busy the last month or so and working six days a week on second shift leaves Sunday pretty busy keeping everything else in order.
Today's new beer is another from my BIF #5 box courtesy of @ovaltine. I'm still looking for the perfect opportunity to enjoy the big bottles from that box....hopefully soon.

Loved the sarcasm on the can here too!

Poured a dark brown/mahogany with a finger of tan head.
Smells of roasted malt, chocolaty, a bit of coffee. Taste follows, sweet dark chocolate with more of a coffee flavored finish. Somewhat creamy mouthfeel with decent corabonation. I would recommend this one.

A quick review after another busy weekend that involved a lot of travel. The highlight was a fun run 5k at Revolution Brewing in Chicago today. A well organized event that's part of the brewery running series with a portion of the proceeds going to local non-profits. Met some cool people and chatted over beers afterwards. A perfect Sunday in my world!

I've been experiencing phone problems that aren't resolved yet so I better get on to the beer before it starts acting up! I took a quick trip to Transient Artisan Ales in Bridgman MI yesterday afternoon for their one year anniversary celebration and bottle release. I was intrigued with trying their first ever Michigan wild ale from their Koelschip which I believe is located on the roof. Let's pop the cork on this 375ml 7% abv. bottle of Anachronism and pour it in my Transient Teku style glass.

It pours a slightly lively and cloudy radiant gold leaving two fingers of soapy white lingering foam. It slowly settles revealing a little lacing. Tiny carbonation bubbles can be seen surfacing. The smell is musty wood, lemon zest, vinegar, wet grass and yeast. Taste is lemon zest, mild vinegar, musty oak, straw and some floral esters. The feel is slick, slightly fizzy and thin to start, then finishes quite dry.

A high quality well crafted wild ale from a brewery that continues to impress and get my money. My score is 4.47 / rDev-0.4%. I had to slow down drinking this moderately tart and refreshing beer or it would have been one of the quickest $16 I ever drank!

Have yourselves a great week. I hope to get this phone straightened out so I can get back to posting without a hassle real soon. Here's the official scorecard......

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cjgiant for getting us underway with a trip down memory lane, when folks like @malty and @JoeyBeerBelly were regularly on this thread.

Today was Bloomsday here in my fair city, the day when 50,000 folks run a 20k race through downtown. I reserve my running for when I'm being chased, however. Today was a fairly nice day for it - sunny but cool enough to not be too uncomfortable for those running.

I spent the day mostly doing housework and attempting to finish off a book due back at the library tomorrow. After dinner, I decided some liquid dessert was in order, courtesy of @MacMalt, in the form of a barleywine from Pennsylvania:

At 5 months old It's still a bit "heated," but it's extraordinarily complex. I'd love to have one after a year or two laid down. Thanks, @MacMalt!

That'll be all for tonight. Unusually, I have to work on Monday in place of a co-worker, but I'll get Friday off for it. Have a great week, all!

My mom was nice enough to bring me back some Bearded Iris IPAs as well as my first bottle of Saison Dupont from her recent trip to Nashville. My impatience got the bet of me, however, and I have a lone IPA left for NBS: Bearded Iris Picture Book.

Pours a cloudy golden-orange color with a one finger white head. Looks like a glass of juice with a small frothy head. Some nice lacing and decent retention.

The aroma is bright and juicy, with big citrus notes of orange and tangerine accompanied by tropical mango and kiwi. There is some pine there also.

Flavor follows with big citrus notes up front: orange, tangerine, grapefruit. Slightly sweet with low bitterness.

Fuller in body and smooth mouth feel.

I really like the hazy, juicy IPAs being produced in Nashville by Bearded Iris. I will write and score a formal review but for now I'm too lazy and distraught at the Ducks/Oilers game.

Well, another Sunday has slipped into the past. Thank you all who contributed this week, especially those that took some time with a historical look at NBS. I must say it was an unexpected surprise to witness the general enthusiasm over the legacy of this thread.

Right before bed last night I took a few minutes seeking out my NBS beginnings, a la @superspak and found my first entry was actually one week after his, NBS 490. It and the few that followed were not the best NBS posts. I don't specifically recall one, but in reading them today, I see I needed a little nudge from the hosts to actually describe my beer. By NBS 501/502 I had fallen into a brief synopsis of the beer on the thread after finishing my official review. I did not follow up to see when I started becoming so damn wordy .

Anyhow, have a good week, BAs, and hope to see you back here next week with a new beer in hand and a willingness to describe it to us. Cheers!
