Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

Had SoJ this weekend. I really liked it this time around. It was light, crisp and juicy. It is more syrupy than Corridor stuff but that's not always a bad thing. Good summer drinker.

 

I should have documented proof for "them" via a picture of my kid's luggage. Next to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles clothes were quite a few cans with hops blasting out of the back of a bearded man's head. Got to spread the wealth to avoid the over-50lb surcharge on my bag.

 

Syrupy is also my complaint with SoJ. Its not bad by any means, but I don't think its great. I'll take Charlatan over it any day if they are next to each other on the shelf.

I will say though, I had Juice Pants 5 over weekend and thought it was quite excellent. My favorite of the series so far. Not quite the mouthfeel of Corridor/FR offerings, but the nose/flavor profile is on point. A touch more bitterness and it would be top notch for me.

 

Oh I'm with you on Charlatan. That beer is their best. Gentle Citra and Amarillo goodness. But Maplewood isn't going for NE style with that one

 

Got to chime in and say I had Juice Pants 5 yesterday and I was also pleasantly surprised.

 

Right, its just a very good American pale. I'm just saying I would take it any day over SoJ and even many of his other offerings.

What else is being released besides the new corridor brew? Must of missed something.....

 

I got backend bitterness that fit the style perfectly. I got more white grape flavor from it than anything else I've had before, hence the grape juice comment. It was delicious, but it was a beer, definitely not juice. Can't wait for it to be canned.

I didn't mean to make it sound like it was literally juice.

I got the same thing...both were really sweet. I thought it actually kind of worked with the Nelson hops and balanced itself out. And this comes from someone that isn't a huge Nelson fan (except on the Simpsons), though I would have still preferred a bit less sweetness.

The Citra one was out of whack and needed it dialed back even more. Which makes me a sad monkey because if you take the sweetness out of it, that one was an outstanding massive hazy Citra bomb.

 

Anyone have word on when the new HB releases are?
