I have no objection to water, for bathing, irrigation and other purposes, but I believe the beer already has a sufficiency.

If your water is chlorinated, then yuck! But I wouldn't mix any beer with any kind of water.

OK, I'm totally at a loss here. "The proliferation of high ABV beers" ?
    1. This is not at the expense of great moderate to low ABV beers.
    2. Why buy or order a high ABV beer if that is not what you want to drink.
    3. Water down an imperial IPA? Are you saying you can't a good IPA?
    4. Water down an imperial stout, Are you saying you can't find a good stout?

Sorry I just don't relate to this at all.

In a time when there is great beer across the spectrum, including moderate to low ABV, beers, I'm at a loss as to why we need to add water, verses find a beer we like.

    But maybe, its just me.

as some people have mentioned regarding whiskey.

i personally love bourbon. i probably don't enjoy it as it should be but i like my bourbon, especially Buffalo Trace, over ice.

whiskey, or other liquor, over ice or a splash of water is different than adding water to a beer.

Definitely added miller 64 to a certain high abv imperial stout at one point. It did exactly what I wanted it to do at the time. To each their own.

Don't know if this is a point in favor or against but in Vietnam beer is served with ice.

I did that once, for science.
Miller 64 vs S.Tier Where the Helles Summer? (~2x the cal. of M64) The latter was still better, which is what I was wondering about. The thing I didn't like was the lack of carbonation.

    I'm with @Squire123 & @jesskidden .
I fixed a flat growler of DIPA (I felt horrid for 3 days, so had to let the 2nd half sit.) by adding another beer (AV Blood Orange Gose) , in a 1:5 ratio. Happened to be lower abv. Tasted close to the original, & was good.

While I don't agree with adding water, I do get that there are a lot of outstanding beers out there that are high ABV and some folks don't like or can't take the high ABV aspect of what is otherwise a very desirable beer. For instance BCBS - a wondrous beer, but if you can't handle the alcohol then you're supposed to go drink a Guinness? Just not the same. I don't drink high ABV beers for the buzz, I drink outstanding high-ABV beers because they don't come in a low-ABV version, and I won't settle for something else. Same with bombers - I don't prefer bombers, but many outstanding beers are bomber-only, so if I want to drink that beer I have to find some way to make the bomber work for me.

OP - rather than watering a beer down, I suggest you drink it as two beers, stoppering in-between. This is what I do with bombers.
