Happy Monday Funday BAs! It's 58 and rainy here and it just makes me want the summer to be over with that much more. That said I did still need some afternoon motivation after lunch:

I'm not big into "hoppy pilsners" usually but this is pretty good. Especially for $14 / 15-pack, so $0.93/beer.

Thoroughly enjoying the new Forest Seasons album from Wintersun that dropped last Friday, been far too long since their last release!

    Cheers!

I bit the bullet and got this 12 pack today at the grocery store I will be going through all 5 (6? do we count Boston Lager) like the Beer Camp last month

I figured 1/5(6) is going to be the one that most people on here would be interested in trying, the Desert Kaleidoscope IPA with Bosque Brewing

Keep in mind that I'm just a dude writing about these not a Cicerone certified beer judge so excuse the descriptions not picking up every single little hop by smell. I like to drink beer and I like to enjoy it in my own special way

Of course with Boston Beer Company at the helm you're not going to get a super hop forward tropical piney IPA. So let's get into it

Appearance is dark Amber in the glass with about a 1 1/2 finger head that's sticking to the glass nicely

Smell is not very hop forward but more of a malty characteristic with a bit of darker fruits than I'm used to with IPA's. Very British smelling IPA not a west coast

Taste is initially very sweet and malty with a bitter finish that lingers on the back of your mouth for a long time. Seriously this thing is BITTER at the end but not in the way that a West Coast IPA is. This is seriously one of the maltiest and sugary sweetest IPA's that I've had in a long time. It's an odd combination. No alcohol burn on the finish but it's got a body to it.

In conclusion this is probably Jim Koch's idea of a great IPA back in 1994 or 1995. I'm not a Sam Adams basher and I try their beers with an open mind, but this is a very interesting take on the style. It in no way probably represents Bosque Brewing's typical IPA that you would get at their bar. It's a drinkable beer and it actually tastes kinda good, but it's just not what I want in an IPA anymore. I will drink the 2nd one because it's there but probably wouldn't buy this in a 6 pack offering.

    my rating: 3/5 (average)

Canned 2 days ago. Incredibly drinkable (dangerous?) for the ABV.
