Ruby color with brownish tinges and small pinkish white cap.

Aroma of tart wild cherries in an old leather bag.

Taste on entry is sharp, tart, cherryish with a layer of something earthy and forresty as if the cherries were picked up off the ground. That sounds gross but it really isn't, just a different take on flavors.

Somewhat thin texture with balancing carbonation.

Every few years I grab one of these Kriek Lambics thinking this time I'll find some nuances I've overlooked before but apparently they still elude my grasp.

I have a few of these still lying around. There's one less now. A beautiful seasonable day here with debris clouds from Irma that's filtering the sun. The leaves are starting to change and continue to drop from the lack of moisture. I'm sure we'll get pummeled this winter as payback. Hope everyone is doing well today......

Before I post anything, I want to give a great "Shout Out" to @Wasatch for his post yesterday which included the album, 'Personae' by the incredible Hellborg-Lane-Sipe trio. I am still saddened by Shawn's passing almost 14 years ago (26 September, exactly). Like Cantillon, that band created some wonderfully spontaneous art in the form of music (and is thankfully captured on a few recordings)...

Before I get all teary-eyed, I suppose a few photos of fermented wort are in order:

...and then for some delicious Tripel-inspired goodness from The Mad Brewers in Esen, Belgium (when visiting, just mention Diksmuide and you will get there):

...yep, that's August 2017 labeled on the crown. In other words, just released from the refermentation room. Unless I move to Belgium, I will NEVER get this beer this fresh (or at this price) again!

Cheers BA's. A visit to another brewery tomorrow is on the calendar.
(It's hard work, but someone has to do it!)

Good afternoon, all! One of the local HyVee stores had a bunch of Oktoberfest singles in their mix-a-six section yesterday. I picked up one each of the five that were available, plus an Iowa-brewed California common to round out the six pack. First up is Schell's Oktoberfest. This is pertty good. Beautiful clear amber color, with a thick long-lasting white head. Aromas of bready malt, with notes of light caramel and apple cider (!) Mouthfeel is substantial, with some earthy bitterness on the back of the tongue. Good pairing with hot dogs and potato chips, based on my experience. What I can't figure out is this: as lazy as I am, why do I keep buying glassware that's so damn hard to wash? #proper

One last beauty (and for all of you who 'know' me by now)...this one should come as no surprise. Without further adieu, my final contribution for today:

Pannepot reserva 2012. I always pick up some Pannepot beers when I have the change whenever in Belgium. Brought this one home some time ago. Don’t remember the price, but outside the cities most editions are not expensive at all.

Rather special beer however This Pannepot is almost like having a vintage port, a single malt scotch and a Belgium beer in one glass. Awesome indeed, but not really a thirst quencher, to put it mildly

    Cheers!
