I'm guessing it was $7-$10/bottle, I'm not 100% sure what the price was. I don't bother trying to play the finding-the-best-price game with many of these limited beers. I'm usually just happy to find them easily with consuming as little time as possible. But to each his own!

Between that and a 6-pack of Schell's Cave Barrel Aged Lager, it was $35 out the door.

Seriously. I don't get this at all - factor in your gas and travel time, and it's a total wash. If you can find it, just buy it.

100% on board with this. I have yet to get a bottle of Black Note. I didn't find a single bottle of standard PAA Noir or PAA Pirate Noir last year. Obviously, people are hitting every store in town and buying stuff out. If you see it on a shelf and you want one, just buy it - does a fifty cent mark-up really cause you that much existential agony?

Do you want the Black Note or not?

I seriously don't get all the people defending price gouging. If a store regularly marks there stuff up more than the other retailers they deserve to be put on blast.

I was just in North Loop. They have at least a few Black Note bottles left. They were charging $8/bottle. No barrel-aged Ten Fiddy yet.

You learn not to go to those stores over time. At the same time, supply and demand is largely at play here. Most of the time basic economics make it nonsense to complain about 50 cents. The other times it comes down whether you really want that rarer bottle or not. There are so many stores out there that the price gouging will never be wholesale as the market will deem a price as fair. Just avoid the abusers in the system.

Do you want to buy the bottle, or do you want to pay secondary for it? or trade some other rare bottles?

And this. If you don't want to support them, then don't - we don't all have the luxury of hours to hunt down bottles. I'm not driving to Maple Grove, Chanhassen, or Princeton for fifty cents off the single bottle they'll allow me. I won't go to the price gougers and drop three hundred dollars on bottles, but I'll pick up a rare bottle or two when they drop - beer isn't a niche interest anymore; unless you're retired or work for a distributor and can swoop on every bottle drop, it's just how this stuff works now.

I wouldn't say they price gouge over there. What Surdyk's did with Darkness way back when was price gouging. North Loop W&S is charging $2 more for a broken 4-pack bottle than a Total Wine in the suburbs who's selling it in the entire 4-pack. I'd say that's a fair price. Plus, it's a small shop in a higher rent area that probably doesn't do anywhere near the volume as some of these other stores do. I equate it to a local neighborhood hardware store vs. a Home Depot or Lowes.

Now, if they're charging a lot of more for a regular, widely available fresh IPA like Blissful, Hooey, Dreamyard, TG Bombers, etc...then yea, maybe I could see it. Then again, there are always other stores to shop at.

You make it sound like this is a yes or no answer and that price gougers are the only game in town. If you have to go all the way to MG from the north loop to find a place that doesn't gouge, you are doing it wrong.

I wouldn't consider 50 cents price gouging. I was assuming the pricing was at least a buck higher. Great if you can get away with it. I just don't get why people jump to defend the practice.

I'm in Roseville and work in Mounds View - so neither of the above are at all ideal for me. As we've all no doubt noticed, distro hits different parts of town on random days. What I was stating is that North Loop is certainly a better option for me than wasting my time with a drive out to MG or Chanhassen. That's worth a dollar price hike for me, easily.

But I'd rather wait. If Heritage, Ale Jail, Scott's, Elevated, and Stinson can't help me out, then I guess I missed a beer... and life will go on.

I thought life ended when you don't get certain beers. I have a list. Let me tell you, I've been almost dead a handful of times!

I think you forgot one really big drastic change. More people each year staying home from work chasing trucks all day when most only want a bottle or 2. This shouldn't be hard to concept, maybe you are in your feelings? Did this strike a nerve?

You are a gentleman, my friend - I did manage to find myself a bottle this afternoon though. As discussed - I had to leave work to do so. Hang on to your bottles - thank you for the offer, it's much appreciated!

Hold up, Schell's Cave Barrel Aged is a thing again? I loved the last iteration of that beer.
