Now, late morning coffee from one of the earliest craft brewers in VA. Two family schools will hoop it up in about a half an hour, one of which has a campus in the same town as Starr Hill.

Time to get this pre-game party started. Starting with a Stillwater Shoegaze Saison. This was purchase made in haste; already ticked this. I can taste regret before I've even cracked the can...

 

Left a good pour of the Coffee and Cakes in the glass for after leaf raking. Going in the completely opposite direction of that sweet and muddy beer with this one.

It is two days into December, I have the mini-vertical set up for the Mrs. and I to drink while we decorate the tree today, and I have now listened to my favorite Christmas song for the first time this season. Bring this holiday shit on.

Happy Saturday, BAs! Struck out on CBS again today. Went to 7 places and nada. The prices are hilarious here too. Lowest I was quoted (in the city) was $30. One place sold them for $40 and still sold out in minutes.

Consoling myself with this cloudy beverage from Free Will that cost 1/8th of what CBS would have cost.

 

A cold lager on this chilly morning. The cat went out but quickly returned griping about her cold wet paws. Me I'm warm and cozy, so . . .



Attractive rose gold color with white cap.

Scent of rich malt (Pilsner, Vienna and Munich) with floral, spicy hops.

Flavor on entry is malt forward with hops adding a nice touch. This isn't just a malt base, it's malt you can taste. Overall flavor remains on the dry side with sweetness more in the scent rather than the taste. I like it. The harmonious flavors remain to the finish and into the aftertaste.

Medium smooth texture with balancing carbonation.

In a package like this we expect the malt to shine but here the hops play a significant role without taking attention away from the main character. A well thought out and executed beer.

Well, UVa seems to be handling Lehigh. Good thing they aren’t treating us like they did Duke a couple years ago in the NCAAs (such a fun night, that was). Another half pour of a nice roasted malt beverage:


The Starr Hill Little Red Roostarr didn’t have much out of the fridge. A light chocolate roast with a tame level of coffee once it warmed. This Black Butte is considerably more bitter (roast and hops) than the previous, very expectedly.
