Only because the forums are slow right now, there's this to discuss...

Personally I like all of them but when I'm holed-up because of snow I generally just go for anything with a decent amount of alcohol - some of my favorites would be:
    Unibroue La Fin Du Monde
    Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
    Chimay Grande Reserve
    Schlenkerla Ur-Bock
    Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
    North Coats Old Rasputin
    Aventinus
    Anchor Old Foghorn

Interesting that it appeared in Popular Mechanics. I liked their inclusion of several CANs & they gave me some to watch for. Thanks for the post!

Solid list of beers, Julius and Supplication are the two that really surprised me. I love both beers, but feel any of the beers you listed are better for the cold and long winter evenings or those days you are snowed in.

Thanks OP, an apt post to me since my area is forecasted to receive a little snow Friday and temps will dip starting Wednesday. I second the moderate to high ABV count when hunkered down because of extreme cold or snowy conditions. Styles I usually collect to keep around for such occasions are big (B)BA Imperial Stouts, English Barley-wines, Belgian Strong Dark Ales, and Tripels.

Cool post. Would like to see what others like to have as 'hibernation' beers.

Not bad but personally I prefer the Chimay Red over the Blue. The Red simply has more flavor too me.

Interesting article and thanks for the post! We're hit and miss here in the PNW as far as snow goes and being from the valley [Willamette], we rarely get anything that constitutes as "snowed in" conditions but here are some of my go-to's for the winter months in no particular order:
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, Narwhal, and Bigfoot
Founders Dirty Bastard and Breakfast Stout
    Ayinger Celebrator
    Block 15 Sticky Hands
    Bridgeport Ebenezer
    Deschutes Obsidian Stout
    Cheers!
