I just can't bring myself around to go out and deal with the blown over, snowed under, busted up shit that awaits me in the out-of-doors - so here's another one of these goin' down -

the Yorktown highway dept. had to make sure the already cleared roads were still clear - so the plow cleared my mailbox for me @ 6am - right after I shoveled my drive - 2nd time this year - (it's been mounted in the same place for 25 years) -

Lagunitas Born Yesterday Pale Ale on tap. This beer does not recieve enough love. As far as fresh hop pale ales go this one shines brighter than most of the ones that recieve all the accolades.

Spent all morning unpacking suitcases, and taking empty boxes to the recycling bin as Mrs. Z opened all the loot she bought online the last month. I had my own Christmas present beer to unwrap, a “mystery” bottle gift wrapped from CCB; the bottles are a limited release or Hunahpu variant, you don’t know what you get until you unwrap it - mine turned out to be Opal from 2/16, a bourbon barrel aged ale dry hopped w/Opal hops - should be interesting. My lunch beer on the left - CBS:

I have no plans to go anywhere today, so I’m going to relax and drink beer. Happy Friday!

Before you ask....yes I do own a calendar. Since we finally got the "Enjoy by" in Ocala on 12/21 and I bought 2 6-paks, my 1 a day pace means this will be the last I post of it until we get the "Enjoy by 4/20". Hope everyone safely survived the frigid winter so far, some of you have really been put to the test. Cheers to a great, drama-free weekend!!

As great as the original is, I love this cover. I think it helps that he has Ben Folds and Joe Jackson involved.

Unwinding with this NE style IPA (6,7% abv.) from Mikkeller's Weird Weather series. Nice.

The 'serious' matters of the week have been attended to, it's time to get down to business with this beast of a beer from Revolution. This can sure packs some bourbon heat and is like comfort food on another cold windy day along the southern shore. Cheers to the weekend!

On a euro bottle kick. I asked a store when they got their bottles in and was given a list of dates. Very nice i appreciate it. Now i can try all these imports without worrying they are years old.

To my suprise, i like the andechs more than this. Hefe is a top style for me because im allergic to bananas and this is as close as i get to that flavor. Also in love with clove.

    Cheers.

Beautiful deep gold color with white cap and lacing.

Aroma of toasty, caramel malt with floral hops.

Taste on entry is full on sweet malt with a caramel undertone. Hops enter early and stay till the party stops but don't add much more than background conversation. Some vanillin hints which I guess are due to being aged on oak chips but it's a mild hit that adds a bit and detracts naught. Mid palate the hops evolve a spicy note but it doesn't have much volume. Finish is clean as is the aftertaste that ends on a refreshing note.

    Medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.

There are a lot of recipes for biscuits and a lot of ways to make a Helles, similarities between the two being both use much the same basic ingredients with differing results. This is a richer, maltier style Helles at the expense of hop brightness but some like that just as some prefer buttermilk biscuits and others don't. I like this well enough because it tastes good and drinks well which after all is what counts.

Usually (hey, it’s true :flushed:) don’t post second pour pics, but I’m having such a good time thinking about/drinking this beer, I felt compelled to share here with youse guys:

Pours an inky black with thick mousse-like lite tan foam; long cap retention; heavy lacing to start, solid ring to the finish line with lots of sheeting and spotting at the end; only the skinniest of legs upon swirl.

Strong coffee nose (at 53 degrees), vanilla bean, roast malt/roast coffee as liquid warms; with further warming (56-57 degrees) maple syrup comes through.

Toasted tootsie roll, espresso, vanilla bread pudding with chocolate bits; barely any bourbon, but some faint maple is there too on-the finish.

Somewhat creamy feel; medium full body - definitely not “thin”; lite plus carbonation; dry Barrel/wood tongue coating, pleasant and not popsicle like.

Overall, a “wow” stout, as it hits all cylinders for me, and tics off all boxes; it is great looking, has great identifiable aromas, the flavors are not strong but rather blend together harmoniously, the feel is almost big with barrel elements that support and enhance the aroma/taste/and feel sensory perceptions; and the final product is as advertised; simply, world class.

Maple is not my favorite flavor, but in this beer I thought its contribution was, again for me, spot on...can’t remember the last time I raved on so about a beer...’gonna finish my glass and walk the dogs...Cheers boys and girls!

I know I should really like this beer but I like the "basic" Jai Alai much better. Hey, we're all different, thankfully.
