Ever try to have a sense of humor?

I haven't bought anything from Odd Side in over two years so I don't have any reason to discuss them.

You guys can bag on Founders all you want, but I am so glad they aren't brewing 6 different BA stouts all year long.

I can get a BA stout with nearly every adjunct possible and not even have to leave MI.

I've enjoyed the series so far and am glad to have gotten to try different styles done well.

They did get the Sweet Repute, Project Pam and Bolt Cutter labels approved last year too.

Man people are hating on this release so hard. Founders just released CBS and are about to release KBS and stout season just ended so I imagine everyone in here who's complaining about this not being a BA stout of some type probably have a fridge full of BA stout. I know I'm in this boat and I'm excited for this release. I get it that doing two BA IPA in a row was a curious decision, but still better than another BA stout nobody needs right now. Ideally I would have liked to see BA Sumatra but I'm still interested and plan to buy this release. Also, there's still two Founders BA Series releases left this year so I'm sure we'll get at least one more new BA stout.

I just find barrel aged hop forward beers generally unappealing, sorry for expressing my opinion. And yes, two in a row. They also don't seem to sell incredibly well either (see: Doom). Instead of BA stouts for warmer weather releases, how about a neutral oak barrel fruited beer? I enjoyed Frootwood (even though it was maple bourbon aged) , seems like other did as well?

To be fair though, there are other options they could have done rather than yet another BA IPA. BA Sumatra (brown ale) would have been great, Bolt Cutter (barleywine), Curmudgeons Better Half (Old Ale), Sweet Repute (wheatwine), or even as @AnchorDrops pointed out - something in the vein of Frootwood.

I don't begrudge Founders freedom to release what they want in their Barrel Aged series. But knowing that they are capable of beers like KBS and CBS, I am disappointed that they're releasing/have released multiple BA IPAs and a BA malt liquor ... For those that like them, great! But I'll be passing.

Not I. First way to ruin an IPA.....Barrel age it. First way to waste space in a barrel.......put an IPA in it. No thanks. Wake up Founders.

I thought Doom was pretty popular the first time around. I suspect that it's fall from favor was more a factor of it being a repeat than anything else. Blushing Monk suffered the same fate--everyone LOOOOOOOVED that beer the first time around. Second time, it wasn't nearly as hyped. Hell, even CBS had the same problem; yeah, I know it was "not as good" as the previous batches, but the common availability and repeat factor certainly played a part...

Anyway, this beer sounds interesting, but I too have the same reticence for barrel-aged hoppy beers. Hell, Scallywagger (speaking of Odd Side :smirk:) was a rum-barrel aged IPA with pineapple and it was delicious, but I didn't drink much of it because I don't repeat-drink that style the same way I do regular IPAs or even barrel-aged stouts and barleywines.

Mosaic seems like it might be a good hop to meld with rum barrel aging. I will certainly give this a try, but I'm unlikely to purchase much. Probably a single if I can find it, or a 4-pack otherwise.

    And the people said:
"Breakfast Stout should be year round" - Done
"Backwoods is your best barrel aged beer" - Will be available year round this year
"Make more KBS" - Still limited, likely by design, but much easier to find
"Bring back CBS" - Done and will be an annual release
"Bring back Better Half" - This year

I think they're awake....Could it be they're just trying to have fun with this series a little? God forbid. Or maybe they just don't want to cater solely to the same non-loyal next flavor group that now chases IPAs that are basically Shandy's, but only if brewed within the week. They're brand awareness is certainly growing thanks to All Day and will grow more with Solid Gold. So maybe more people will pick up a 4pk just to try it because they know Founders and it sounds fun and interesting. Seems like a good business model to me. If you're into just buying basement cellar beers then just wait for KBS, CBS, soon to be Better Half. The whole series doesn't have to be those styles of beer.

Tough crowd in here! 6 BA beers a year is a good amount, granted 1 is KBS every year, but with BB being year round, that should be 5 new BA next year instead of 4 we saw this and last year. I do hope they bottle BA Imperial Stout next year, and do some variants with KBS at some point. (Vanilla please!)

Another idea I had not considered is that they "know" that anything they release now will not be as well received as it previously was. -No matter if that is marginally or to some greater degree (CBS is a great example of this due to the large difference in substitutes since 2011). If that's true, it would make sense that they wouldn't want to put everything out at the same time. They'd want to trickle it out where people are clamoring "Bring XYZ back!!!"

With what level of confidence do you make these announcements? I'm starting to salivate. I've been pining for it for six years.

BA Curmudgeon, which itself was outstanding, was on tap for several months last year, which led me to wonder if it, or even better, Curmudgeon's Better Half, would be in this year's barrel aged series. Better Half stands as my only "perfect 5" of nearly one thousand beers.

Fairly confident. I'm hoping the trend with how Founders is releasing the BA series is they put it on tap a year or two prior. Take example Dankwood. This was on a year and a half ago. And BA Curmudgeon was last year I think. Hopefully the same will hold true for BA Imperial Stout and BA Sumatra. I also had Devil Went Down to Kentucky (BA Devil Dancer) in February. 2019 could be a great year in Founders BA.

Heard an unsubstantiated rumor that many Binny's will be getting another drop of CBS with KBS on Friday.

Please let this be true for everywhere that gets KBS and please let it be the damn 4 packs this time instead of bombers!

Maybe I'm the pessimist (realist, I swear) in this virtual room, but does that make sense? Surely they are getting rid of the bombers they did not sell. Surely it isn't 4 packs that never made it out of international markets?

I'd say if this rumor is true, it will be more bombers.

SOURCE: I, too, am a pessimist.

4-packs of CBS never saw distribution in the US, and I doubt they would. Those bottled for overseas markets only.
