Founders beer releases

Yeah, ended up changing my statement a bit to variants. Regular is super easy to get in Chicago.

 

Anybody see any KBS in the far Northern Burbs today/yesterday? I was out of town this weekend and looking for a 4 pack.

 

KBS is great this year!

 

Not sure if this is true or a late april fool's joke, but Founders showed Dankwood as being released next on their facebook page.

 

Let's take a less than popular beer and put it in bourbon barrels...

 

I actually like Doom, I'm sure DankWood will be good. That being said, I can understand why some people are frustrated with some of the releases in this series.

 

I guess in the end it is their beer/their choice but I was really hoping for sumatra being barreled next oh well maybe Lagunitas will mass produce waldo's this year given by their "big" reveal today.

 

Nugget Nectar used to be a really popular beer. I always though Redankulous was a spin off of that. Makes sense to me to put Redankulous in barrels. They will be getting me for at least one four-pack.

 

Whole Foods in west loop Chicago has cases on the floor @ $23/pk.

 

Curmudgeon’s Better Half

What tames an old ale like Curmudgeon? The tender embrace of oak and sweet maple, that’s what. The result is Curmudgeon’s Better Half, a harmonious matrimony of our deceptively smooth old ale brewed with molasses and time spent aging in bourbon barrels that have previously held maple syrup. Because all counterparts should be sweet, rich and utterly delicious.

That’s right, we’re bringing this old favorite back from retirement – last bottled in 2012, Curmudgeon’s Better Half has become one of the most highly requested beers and for good reason. It’s damn good. You all have been very vocal in petitioning for its return and it would’ve been cruel for us to hold out any longer in delivering on that.

 

Woot woot. Better half!!

 

Not a fan of the "aged in bourbon barrels that held maple syrup" method. CBS was a big letdown because of that. Zero bourbon and only a little maple syrup came through. Granted it's cheaper to make it that way, but aging in a fresh bourbon barrel and then adding maple syrup would give it the bold flavors that people want it to have. Better Half is going to be another big letdown if it's thin and lacking flavors in the same way that CBS was.

 

I am not a huge CBS fan, but I couldn't disagree with this more. The last thing CBS needs is to be more of a maple bomb than it already is. Better Half was pretty amazing the last time it was released. Trust me, it doesn't need more syrup added.

 

I’m by far an expert, but I thought the first few batches of CBS (i.e. rare and highly rated) were also aged the same way as this most recent batch. Am I wrong?
