Short's Huma Lupa Licious. I bought a sixer of this beer, and now I wish I bought two of this old favorite. Do you feel me @Tripel_Threat ?

Anchorage Brewing's Bitter Monk...

Barrel-aged, Belgian-style DIPA with brettanomyces, brewed with Apollo and Citra hops, and dry hopped with Citra......

Paired with black peppercorn turkey, pork, and chicken liver mousse, pastrami-style smoked salmon, balsamic BellaVitano cheese, and plain water crackers...


As I indicated earlier, a favorite from many years ago, though the price back then and lack of availability now have kept me from returning to it for about 6 years or so...

Comes in at 9% abv and 100 IBUs... Triple fermentation process includes French oak with Belgian yeast and chardonnay barrels with brett; finished in the bottle...

Softly fruited with citrusy impressions of grapefruit and lime, but drying as barrel woods and brett funkiness assert themselves, with floral aromas on top and a wine-like character - albeit with a beer-like feel...I had a big Belgian phase and a decent-sized brett phase back in the day - though you'd never know it from all the IPAs I drink now... This is one of those beers that really celebrates the classiness of a Belgian pale and the wonders that brett can do for a beer - plus, that barrel-aging in French oak and wine barrels...

Went great with my snack accompaniments, though the mousse stole the show - light and perfectly peppery, with a creamy feel and rich flavor...

I think the correct meteorological term is It's hot as shit around here.

 

DESTIHL Weissenheimer, 5.2% ABV. Pours pale yellow, with a one finger white head which dissipated quickly leaving no lacing. Nose is bananas and cloves, taste follows with a slight sweetness and no bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

A local bottle shop in Westboro Ma. had a sale on them posted in this weeks newsletter. Last time I visited the store there was about 2 cases on the shelf.

Dark brown liquid with carbonation, one finger taupe foam cap, quickly settles to a ring of foam

Aroma of dark fruit, figs, tartness, wood

Tart fruit, cherries

Fizzy carbonation , thirst quenching

Good beer

 

Another winner from Commonwealth. Sweetness, apricot, ripe mango. Pretty awesome.

First review as usual. Outstanding gose! Great head retention and spotty lacing for a sour. Ruby red/pink/purple color. Aromas and flavors of big sour/tart/tangy blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, pear, green apple, melon, red grape, sea salt, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat/cracker malts; light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced grainy wheat, lactic acid, fruit tang/tannins, and light salinity in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing tart/tangy/carbonated dryness, no pucker. Very flavorful/refreshing, 4.5%. Not overly lactic or salty. They really nailed this one. Not as sour as most of their other Gose/Berliners, but similar to the recent Blueberry on acidity. Awesome balance of jammy dewberries, salt, Lacto complexity; with a nice pale/wheat malt backing against acidity. 4.15


I had to add this one. Never had anything from them yet. Fantastic NEIPA! Nice head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, orange juice, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, gooseberry, blueberry, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate white, biscuit dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, zesty, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; bready/grainy malts and light sticky hop in the mouthfeel. Slight resins in the back. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Awesome soft feel for the style, very smooth. Wonderful Mosaic and Cryo Citra/Simcoe profile. Super juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank hop complexity; perfect wheat/oat/malt balance, mild residual sweetness. Need to seek out some more from this brewery. 4.2

Fall beer season 2018 has officially started with Oktoberfests.

Pumpkin ales, red ales, brown ales, and of course wet hop IPA's will follow soon . Then it gives way to Winter warmers, Imperial Stouts, and Christmas beers

This is my absolute favorite time of the year for drinking beer, so I am going to enjoy it one beer at a time from today through New Years.
