Southern Tier is one of my most favorite underappreciated breweries. But is it me, or did they tweak this year's recipe too far in the wrong direction? Less bready, less spice, less aromatic ( @tasterschoice62 ) and a little more artificial tasting? Am I crazy?? :flushed:

Sticking with my earlier music selection ...

I need to seek out some Schlafly Pumpkin instead. :flushed:

Picked up some Pumking today on Atlanta. With the change on distributor ownership in Arkansas we haven't seen any new Schafly in a while. I hope they get it figured out soon. I don't want to miss out on their pumpkin.

Insane as always, fresh pack. So glad this is year round now. Flavors of huge nutty medium roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toasted oats, dark bread, and light molasses/smoke/char; with some herbal/piney hops, touch of dark fruit. Incredible bittersweet balanced finish between roast/hop notes. Medium-full body; amazingly creamy/silky and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel. Some lightly increasing bitter/roasted dryness. Never acrid/astringent. Absolutely killer as it was last year fresh! I usually found it to be a bit too bitter/drying when fresh in previous years; always liked it with 6-9 months of age. Balance between malt, coffee, and bitter hops is perfect. Amazing mouthfeel. Absolutely phenomenal.

Insane NEDIPA. Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, orange juice, grapefruit, lemon, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/zest, and light peppercorn/pine hops; with moderate wheat, biscuit dough, light honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; very creamy/silky/bready wheat mouthfeel; light sticky sticky hops, slight resins. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Minimal warming 9.1%. Insanely drinkable, perfectly soft feel, never aggressive. Loved the hop bill. The Columbus, Centennial, Loral, Simcoe hops provide more dank/earthy complexity, and a touch more resin drying than Boss Tweed. Maybe not better than Boss, but super close. Insanely juicy and fairly dank hop complexity; with perfect wheat/oat malt balance. Never overly sweet/heavy for the ABV. Only have 1 more left, but Boss Tweed will be back really soon.

I almost pulled the trigger on that today, funny. Thats the thing. I think the past few years they did too much tweaking. The original was special and to me really tasted like pumpkin pie topped with whipped cream. Like it or hate it it was an original. Last 2 batches I liked with some age on them.

I remember that Pumpkin beer being pretty flawless. Hopefully they stuck to their guns this year and didn't mess with the recipe (tweaking seems to be the "in thing" with breweries these days).

Love Jai Alai so was expecting great things with a lonely single I found fresh canned 7/21. Wow what a great PA! Lots of bright citrus with that tropical feel and their (IMO) special malt. The malt thats what truly sets them apart.

After two pumpkin beers needed a palate scrubber.

A pretty sad state of affairs right now with no Double IPA's in my fridge at this moment!! :sob: (County Line is awesome but sometimes the palate craves the "super-sized version" !)

Closer and not bad for .99 a can.
BTW both octopuses and octopi are acceptable.[IMG]
