Yeah, I know I'm a week behind. And yeah, I know I'm going to Germany tomorrow, but yes, I LOVE smoky/peaty Scotch whisky, but between single malt Scotch or Rye, I'll take a smokey peaty Scotch over a burning rye any day.

This has actually happened here a few times as well... owners allowing underaged drinking, gang activity, non-payment of taxes, overserving, etc... all sorts of shit goes in to it. Usually it's more than just one thing. There's a bar just up the street from me that is constantly closed due to "incidents" - there's a trailer park about a block away, and a bunch of apartment complexes. People walk from there, get really drunk, and do stupid shit. I believe it was a year or two ago, a father and son were feuding there. They walked out together and the father shot his son to death.

Some crazy shit happens in bars, man.

Yeah when I first moved back to Seattle about four years ago there was a night club on the corner at the busy end of my block. They finally got their liquor license pulled because there were too many shootings and that's the death knell of any club. Actually, the FedEx was on the next block over and I remember talking to the lady behind the counter about the busted out window and bullet holes in the wall to distract her from the sloshing in my box during the inaugural NBS.
There was a really cool mural of the city on one of the exterior walls of the club that they unfortunately painted over.
That place is actually a brewery now, oddly enough.

Somehow I grabbed the mail yesterday but then checked again this morning and lo and behold another bomb in there! Perfectly chilled I might add!

This bomb comes courtesy of @strohme2 . Justin this is an awesome selection of cans! Many thanks, and since they are perfectly chilled (it was fridge temp outside last night) I think one will quickly be headed for NBS!

    Cheers boys!

And Justin- I’d watch yo ass if I were you......

The bar is in a large strip mall. They don’t open until 6PM and their bread&butter was everyone in the bar/restaurant industry coming in after their shifts ended and their places closed. The early crowd was mostly pool and dart leagues. For a typical TGI Fridays, Chili’s, Outback, etc they close around 11, give or take an hour. This bar would fill up with kitchen/waitstaff and be rocking by midnight. From then on is when they did 90% of their business.

After someone was shot in the bar(isolated incident/targeted attack), a story I can elaborate on more or give you a link to the article, the owner of the strip mall decided that he was going to force the bar to be non smoking. That was going to turn away over half of their clientele. And after a few more minutes of thinking he also decided that the bar had to close at midnight. That turned an 8,500 sq ft bar into a ghost town. After just 2 weeks it was decided that with the drastic loss in business, they weren’t going to be able to keep the doors open.

Wait, there still places that allow smoking in bars? After Washington's smoking ban went into effect, there were dire predictions of bars losing so much business that they would close. The opposite happened, with clean air, more folks started drinking out. Less than 20% of the population still smokes, why bars insist on catering to that minority is a mystery to me.

It’s still allowed in bars? I think it’s been 20 years since I’ve been in a bar with smoking. I miss when they used to ask Smoking or Non when you went out to dinner

Not here in Minnesota. The smoking ban happened in around 2010.

All the laws in Indiana are freaking archaic! We just passed Sunday sales of alcohol, but there are restrictions on that. Smoking is “banned” on a city by city basis. There is no smoking here in South Bend but the neighboring city, that shares an east/west border, Mishawaka still allows it. I don’t smoke and prefer non smoking bars, but I would say that the majority of bar goers around here smoke. There are an uncountable number of smoke shops up and down every main road here.

Tastes like a hoppy creamsicle. Very interesting brew. Citrus tartness with the vanilla and cream all over a nice base IPA

    And
Smarty w/guava and mango from Ingenious.
Super tropical fruit flavors, sweet and tart.

Interesting. Rarely see smokers here. Vapors are around, but not a ton.

That’s one of the reasons the non smoking took such a big hit on the bar. It’s surrounded by other smoking bars.

Floating Bridge. On the corner next to Blue Moon over in the U District right by the highway.
I've been there a couple of times. Not bad. Nothing really blew me away, but enjoyable.
I've gone back and probably will again at some point.
