This is a dessert that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers would likely enjoy after battling with Rita Repulsa.

 

I love rye beers, and had been patiently waiting for SN to bring this one back because I’d never had it when it was in regular rotation. So I was really pumped to see it in this year’s Fall Pack. Worth the wait.

Starting off with this treat-



Allagash Curieux

 

Delicious imperial pumpkin. Nice head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of big pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, peppercorn, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, and gingerbread; with lighter notes of coconut, oaken vanilla, toffee, and herbal/grassy hops. Light herbal/grassy/spice bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation, medium-plus body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malt, sticky spice, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy/tannic dryness, no astringency. Dangerously drinkable, minimal warming 10%, no barrel booze. This is very impressive overall, vs expectations. Great balanced malts, pumpkin flavors, and spices; nice overall bourbon barrel presence/integration. Not overly sweet or boozy. Worth another buy for sure. 3.9


2018 vintage. This was amazing. Dense pour. Not head/lacing as expected for 13.5%. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuts, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, and pepper. Lightly increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Very mild herbal/roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light carbonation and very full body. Very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is is amazing. Slight slickness, sticky hop, chalky roast, oak tannins. Slightly increasing lingering bitter/tannin dryness. No cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping, mildly increasing warmth of 13.5%, no barrel booze. Another easy winner as expected. Insanely rich malt complexity, with perfect barrel integration/balance. Not overly roasty/charred on malts. Worth the price. 4.35
