Ran my first Half Marathon yesterday. I think I deserve a treat after my recovery run this morning.

Staying low-profile today, my final in Ohio, catching up on my 'egghead' reading with a backlog of 'Skeptical Inquirer' magazines, listening to some old Jethro Tull and Allman Brothers (will probably switch to jazz in a bit), and having the occasional Ohio beer, all before meeting up with my dear ol' 89-old mother and six siblings and in-laws for a big dinner at some high falutin' restaurant later this evening.

This Jackie O's 'Bourbon Barrel Aged Brick Kiln' suits the time, weather, and atmosphere this cool, wet and gray early afternoon as I bide my time...

A monstrous barleywine, outstanding all around, keeping the alcohol and boozy aspects in check and still highlighting the dark, malty base beer. At 12.1% ABV, I would't go so far as to say it's deceptively easy to drink, yet there is no denying it's inherent drinkability for a big beer.

Light yellow color with white cap and decent lacing.

A distinct aroma of clean grain with a bit of floral hopping.

Taste is surprisingly wheat beerish which wasn't what I was expecting. In fact the yeast is the prominent flavor that strikes me first. It's actually rather good in a basic beer sort of way but I don't really get malt, or grain, or grain sweetness in this one. Simple flavors but good ones that come across as clean.

    Mild texture with balancing carbonation.

Not bad for a basic brew, food and company friendly.

First taste of Polish craft beer.
Not sure of the brewery (I think Wezze Krafta) a very good Bock.

I think I like it better with a little bit of age on it rather to when it was fresh

Enjoying a local Oktoberfest offering from Asbury Park Brewery along with yet another Padron stogie. I like to support these local brewers when possible and not only buy now and then for myself, but also gift friends and family with sixers of those I find the most appealing. Their "Fest" isn't their Best, but its okay.

Sitting in my room in NYC, resting after a long morning. All these hype-loaded NE IPAs, but when I saw this classic that I've never had, I knew it needed to go in my bag for later.
