Eh? Hipster is about the last thing on earth I am. Glad that I'm not the only one with this viewpoint, even if it is only being shared by a minority of folks

lolol just kidding man. maybe you had a bad batch but I think we can all agree that most of these claims that "last years batch of X was way better" are mostly in people's heads. I know big beers like dark lord and Darkness vary greatly from year to year but smaller beers taste change i attribute mostly to people's "palate" changing

I think there is a lot more variation in year-to-year seasonal releases than some people are willing to give credit for. Hopslam absolutely tasted different last year than 2011, but I still loved it. I know a ton of my friends agree 2010/2011 KBS is better than the 2012 batch. BCS 2011 was better than 2012 IMO (but then again, with GI tinkering the ABV each of the past few years, you'd expect variation). Frankly, I dont care too much about batch variation in flavors unless things go awry. Thinner mouthfeel and more acidic flavors to be are things I'd prefer to avoid versus "this has moar/less honey," etc.

I remember really loving it last year... and really loving it this year as well. Perhaps it's a touch more bastard this year, and last years was a little more backwoods?

Now I completely disagree with you. We did a full 2005-2012 KBS vert last weekend and the previous batches were FAR beyond their prime and much worse than a 2012. 13 total people agreed all together on this.

I really think it is a BA fad now to say how current releases aren't as good as previous batches.

I think we should have a separate site for people who always complain how last years was better. It could be called BAA (Beer Anti Advocate). It could be a place where people can constantly dis beers and rave about "the good old days" 5 years ago when no one knew about good beer but them. They could also post pictures of all the rare beer they want to hoard to themselves and even pictures of them drinking "whales" in front of others and not sharing a single drop!

    Totally agree it's a fad.

But it's also a counter-fad to mock anyone who says any beer in existence is different than the previously year. Which is just as silly.

    Whose fad wins? Cage match?

About a week ago I had a BCS at a friends house. Wednesday I had my first BB from this year and I thought that it might be a bit weaker this year. After having a second one today I remember how it really good BB was in the past. Overall I think I had a very heavy bourbon beer behind it and that is where my taste was.

I'm disappointed in the fact I was never even able to find any, and have never gotten to try any vintage.

But, I still think 2011 was better, and that was no 2010.

Anyone else want to blast Founders these days? This is getting ridiculous! I'm thinking, as BA's, we have tries SO many "World Class" beers. When these highly sought after beers come out, we expect them to blow us away just as they did the first time we had it. It isn't gonna happen... Quit rippin on em and enjoy beer!
