Ever had a beer that threw you for a loop? Here is one for me.

    Off Color's Barrel Bear.

Pours a murky burgundy with two fingers of dense khaki foam. Head retention is okay with lacing forming a dense curtain around the glass. Aroma is strong, hitting notes of steong juniper berry, rye, and herbal and floral hops. It comes off extremely dry save for the juniper berry notes. For some reason, this smell is what I think the prairie adjacent to Whiterun in Skyrim would smell like. Flavor profile is dense juniper berries with a swift, hot kick from rye whiskey and char. It is high octane for the style, with that heat seeping through the cracks. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a plush, velvety texture. Overall, big and deep. By far the biggest sahita I've had to date, but also the only whiskey barrel aged. Heat lingers like a well made 12% ABV whiskey stout.

    Score: 4.5 | 4 | 4 | 4.25 | 4.25 | BA Score: 4.11 | rDev: N/A (first review/rating)

This is my third sahiti review, but is far and wide the biggest, and hottest. That's where I'm confounded on how to review it. Regardless, it's tasty, and more familiar to big BA stouts thanks to it's heat and time in rye barrels.

Why not some more coffee? Sadly my last of these, and even at 2 months old, the flavors are still big and have held up pretty nicely. Vanished Valley's Hey, Don't Forget The Coffee. Cheers!

Another new brewery to my neck of the woods. Awesome DIPA. Great rocky head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread dough malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 8%. Great Cascade, Citra, Columbus, Ella, Mosaic profile. Great mix of juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hop complexity; nice oat/malt backbone, minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. Very well attenuated for the ABV. Nothing flashy, just a really well made west coast DIPA. 4.1

Back home from Noble, with Noble (although this one was purchased earlier at my local corner store). Damn, BA’s, this one is rated 4.32, and just like on 9/25/14, I’m not feeling it. It just came out, but it tastes old. Light, muted, a tad sticky... I dunno. Total pass next time.

So Raul is just chillin’ out back, and I gotta say, BA’s, it ain’t all that bad. 67 and sunny, and the rumor is that Bryce Harper is signing with the Dodgers. He will be an overpaid primadonna, but just as long as he delivers that long coveted World Series Championship, it’s all good.

Cheers to all you ugly sons of guns out there, because to me, you’re still beautiful baby:

Yup, another fine sour from Wunderkammer Bier in Greensboro Bend, VT. Brewed and bottled at Hill Farmstead Brewery. This is how I'm starting my weekend!

    375 ml. bottle.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a nearly one inch white head over an almost bright and just slightly hazy golden body with no lacing. Nose of citrus (lemon), earth (dried leaves, moss), and slight funk. Taste of citrus, slightly sour, and so very refreshing. As it warms a bit there is a finish of pink grapefruit that is very pleasant. Nice feel and overall, another nice little sour from Vasilios.
    Cheers!

Well, I don't know how much I can pass on, but this is version definitely has a fine burning, high octane bourbon tone to it. My bottle is their OBSK version (which, according to their web site - the yeast used lends a fruity character to that particular whiskey variation). Personally, I don't detect that element, but I do like the intense, medium burn that it brings. Fiery with some nice peppery notes.
