What beer are you drinking now? #2262

It's not 80 here, but it did get up to 61/62 yesterday. These cravings really make no sense, even subbing out with another AAL won't satisfy that itch. I suppose a bit of nostalgia combined with drinking IPAs for the last week or so is pushing me to something light clean and uncomplicated. So $7 and a sixer cures it, and this to shall pass.

Penchant Pils from Monument City . . .



Light yellow gold color with brilliant white cap and lacing.

Aroma of yeasty, bready malt and floral, spicy hops.

Taste is evenly spread between malt and hops. The malt is bready and bordering on rich while the hops do retain some floral aspects and spicy elements. Toward the finish hops build to a firm end that lasts into the aftertaste. I believe this is a first rate example of a German-Czech style Pilsner.

 

I Grew up on churros so this is always a must when I see it at a bottle shop

Lots of maple, biscotti, and chocolate.. Very smooth cheers

Boston Beer Company Samuel Adams Cold Snap

 

From my cellar.
Bottled on 6/18/2014.
This beer was on a store shelf for 2 years or so; then 2 1/2 years more in my cellar.

So, this beer is 4 1/2 years old.



I first tried this beer at ~18 months from bottling & liked it OK, but thought the whiskey dominated everything too much. 3 bottles sat and sat on the shelf of my regular store, so I finally rescued them to my cellar. This is the first one I've brought up from the cellar and opened.

Time in the cellar has improved it, IMO. The whiskey is subdued, leaving the rich flavors of the beer to come forward. There is still plenty of barrel and whiskey, especially in the aroma, but now the flavor is nice, with vanilla, caramel, and a thick mouth feel. Just a bit of alcohol in the finish, but it is 11% ABV after all.

I'm very much looking forward to the other 2 I have left. Maybe open the next one in another 6+ months.
