    From Union Craft Brewing . . .

    Dark, dark blackish color with ruby highlights, light tan cap and lacing.

    Deep aroma of rich, sweet, roasty malt.

    Flavor is intense yet light. Upfront are elements of roasted sweet malt, touch of coffee, something deeper like dark toffee and a bit of ripe fig. Hops remain in the background yet make their presence known. These are not citrusy, juicy hops, rather something more neutral that manifest as hop firmness.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

    This is not a standard lager with some dark malt tossed into the grain bill. It is cohesive, thoughtfully designed and well put together. Another attaboy for Union Craft Brewing.

    Rocket the Wonder Dog and I are 'patiently' awaiting Mrs. Goot to finish her new year exercise routine before we dive into some buckwheat pancakes and Amana Colony smoked ham with some home-made Michigan maple syrup from my old USAF friend Tom (Big Medicine Ranch - known mostly for their coffee)...and since there is old holiday beer to kill off (in anticipation of drinking more -- and newer -- later this year), well, so it goes...

    I figured my first beer opened for the new year should be something special. At five years old, a ton of coffee still present both on the nose and the taste. This is up there with the '13 Backyard Rye and the '14 Vanilla Rye as not only the best BCBS I've had, but one of the best beers that I've ever had period.

    Happy Brew Year to All of You Magnificent Beerstards!

    I was really gassed upon returning from PHL last evening so I crashed shortly after my return. I awoke to begin my annual cook of pork & sauerkraut & celebrated the PST New Year before returning to the rack.

    Upon rousing, I knew that a) I did NOT want Champagne (unless it was that magnum of Miller) & b) I wanted something Champagne-like, so I went with:
