As disappointing as that was , it might be helpful. ( to me )
I passed on the following. Guess as to whether this might work?

Tangerine Sunrise IPA - New England
    7.1% ABV

"Juicy NEIPA brewed with Oats, Wheat and two row barley. Heavily dry hopped with Sabro and conditioned on tangerines. Seductive citrus aroma with a touch of mint balances perfectly with the creamy mouthfeel."

    *****************************************************************************
Next : Hel & Verdoemenis, from DeMolen ,via Shelton Brothers
    "Enjoy within 25 years." :astonished::grin: Dated 7 NOV 2014 , so still good:sunglasses:.
A seemingly simple stout. No adjuncts, no barrel-aging, but 10%.
    Buttttt….. there is some complexity.
Dark chocolate, brown bread (sweet roasted malt) ,coffee ,cola, & a touch of hazelnut, all dancing around. Some herbal hop flavor at first, that disappeared after a few sips. Very good . Other than an initial ear-warming, no noticeable effect of the alcohol.

On to the next beer. This one is pretty good, I like it more than the coffee cinnamon, but not as much as the regular B-Bomb.

Moderate pour produced a one inch head, dark mohagony color. Nose is chocolate and bourbon with a hint of toasted coconut. I can see where the Mounds bar comparisons come in. Taste is more of the same with brown sugar and a little smoke, char and leather. Mouthfeel is moderate and wish it was a bit heavier. Seems to me a lot of the barrel aged dark beers I’ve had lose a little weight with adjuncts like coffee, cocao or coconut added. Overall a 4.5 and excellent winter warmer throughly enjoyed on the -4° snowy night. Cheers New Beer Sunday fam.

Happy New Birthday Beer Sunday/Monday (Week 731)!

As of a half-hour ago, I have now officially completed yet another rotation around the Sun! I am 54 y/o & while my health is waning, I am still upright & breathing. Today's (yesterday's) Kvass marathon gave me a sugar high that left me a bit edgy so I drank:

Today is/was my mom's 60th so I was gonna drive up to the island and surprise her. Thankfully I talked to her a week or two ago and she told me that my dad was taking her up to Vancouver to the opera for her birthday. Good thing we talked otherwise I would have showed up to an empty house!
Anyway, they invited me to come along and so I did. And so I'm in Canada. Eh?
I have too much beer in my fridge. And yet I had to pop into a liquor store here to grab some local options! What was I going to do... not do that?

Play Dead IPA from Yellow Dog

Pours a gorgeous crisp clear amber body that I've missed oh so much with a nice white head that eventually works down. Lovely lacing down the side of the glass.

Nose doesn't get me overly excited as it starts off with more of a malty presence, if a little estery.

Flavour presents with a nice classical balance of big bitter piney hops balanced out with some of the same sweeter malts.

Bitter hops linger and linger nicely over a clean body and blanketing pinpricks of carbonation.

Nice classic old school IPA which is just what I was looking for.

    Cheers!

My dad is really excited that he's now 'internet famous' that I'm posting his beer on this thread (the other glass is his).

I was in the final stretch with the Oscars and I decided to open the last beer in my 15%+ ABV club. At 20%, this was the biggest of them all.

I watch the Oscars each year, but the only part that I actually look forward to is the "in memoriam" sequence. I love that part. There's always someone in that package that impacts me in one way or another. This year's was a biggie as a consequence of Nicolas Roeg being included. He's one of my favorite directors and I didn't know he passed away. I really view his work with great affection.

I can't say this beer was a letdown. What did I expect? I was hoping that it would surprise me but it didn't. It was brewed with coriander, orange peel, and cinnamon. I don't really keep track of such things, so I can't say for sure, but I bet this is in the top 3 highest ABV beers that I've had. Besides Utopias (which I liked), I cant think of anything higher off the top of my head.

Naturally, the first thing that hits you with this beer is the heat. It's a beautiful clear copper. Gorgeous. The head doesn't last a few seconds. It's simultaneously very sweet and bitter, but more the former than the latter. This is a single hop brew (Columbus) with 100 IBUs (according to the brewer's site). Body is full but still pretty light all things considered. Tastes of alcohol, orange, bitterness, alcohol, apple, bitterness, and alcohol. The beer is certainly drinkable for its size, but there's nothing really pleasant about it. It's aggressive. It's also rough around every conceivable edge. This beer doesn't deliver anything except a buzz.

This one goes out to Nic Roeg with affection.

Hey! It doesn't ALWAYS rain in Seattle! We got some snow a couple of weekends ago!
I really like that one (and I'm not usually a fan of the pastry-esque stouts), and also, yeah, the whole german/German's thing always kind of irks me a little bit and is simultaneously one of my favourite little pieces of obscure(ish) trivia.

I think I’ll just stay away from Sabro until someone convinces me otherwise!
