Enjoying one my favorite IPAs now, getting excited about a very special TIPA on-draft with dinner, cheers!

 

I bought this yesterday and I thought it was pretty good. It’s about two weeks old, canned 2/13 too so it’s super fresh. So Mind Haze from Firestone Walker.

They label it a NE ipa, uses wheat, Munich, two row among others. Hops are a 7 hop blend some in the kettle some for dry hopping. 6.2 abv only 40 ibu.

It’s definitely tropical fruit on the nose, the taste follows. It’s a very pale ale , I purposely drank this blind so I had no information at all. I really was thinking this was a Brut Ipa because of how light in body, fruity, and really quite dry it is, the ABV kinda fall in line as well. It’s definitely not a sweetish fruit bomb, which I think follows with a good many NEIPAS. Really like this beer, very well balanced, easy on the palate and a lot of flavor. Finish is a bit thin and a bit weak, but the drinkability is high. Maybe a 4 or so, a better finish would easily raise that.

 

We want Winnipeg vs Washington in the finals. Then I get money. I'm holding you 100% responsible for making that happen. Get it done.

 

Rich gold color with lasting cap and lacing.

Deep aroma of sweet malt and some ripe tropical fruits such as pineapple and mango, bit of tangerine and herbs as well. Very complex and enticing scent.

Taste on entry is a delightful melange of sweet malt and vibrant hops. Beautifully balanced and complex. Malt has the depth of a slice of Death by Chocolate cake yet remains almost restrained, as if it's so confident it doesn't have any need to show off. Hops are there in abundance with brightness and vibrancy equal to the intensity of the malt. Ripe fruit hop elements emerge more fully yet stay within bounds. By mid palate I'm getting some of the herbal influence in the hops which acts as seasoning rather than a flavor. Everything just works so well together.

 

Poured into a 13 oz Free Will Teku glass canned 2/21/19. Pours a dark orange with a massive 3 finger off white head that covers the glass with thick foamy rings of lace, excellent retention. 4.25

Smell is tangerine, apricot, passionfruit, and just a hint of pineapple. 3.75

Taste follows tangerine, apricot, passionfruit, and pineapple very little if any bitterness. 3.75

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, plenty soft on the palate, a little sticky but not dry, and at 6.5% ABV easy drinking. 3.75

Overall nothing wrong with this, just lacking any wow factor. I was hoping for more from this brewery I had never heard of.
