Goodmorning BA and happy Saturday.. Getting thinggs into gear for pastry town today hosted by other half
[IMG] should be a banger event that ends with me laying up at the hospital but first drinking this killer brew from pohjala.. This might be one of the best stouts ive ever had as the sherry barrels really shine
    [IMG]
Pours Jet black with a brief ruby tinted light brown head. The smell of dates, raisins, cranberries, and above all, sherry overwhelm the room. Blackcurrant jam, smooth chocolate, and a light toasted oak character come through later, whilst sweet malts and a hint of alcohol closes the aroma. The taste is Big and bold, this immediately makes the Pedro Ximenez felt. Luxuriously sweet, with a heavy presence of cherry and chocolate. The raisin character from the aroma comes through again, sliding down the tongue smoothly.. Fucking world class stout here, cheers BA and have a great staurday

This is tasting amazing. Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, cream, toffee, molasses, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of coffee, licorice, smoke, raisin, plum, fig, and dates. Mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Light chalky roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. No cloying, acrid, astringent roast flavors. Insanely smooth, minimal warming 11.2%, zero barrel booze. Bell's has the BBA game on point as usual. While I still prefer well aged Expedition and the BBA version more, this is still definitely better than I remember when I reviewed it initially. Richer and silkier mouthfeel. Perfect barrel integration and complexity. Still have a few left, was so easy to find in 2017. Same with BBA Expedition last year. I am sure I could easy get more of either as well.

Looking forward to the new album. Especially the 23 minute track.

I’m starting Saturday with a beer from the most hyped brewery in Sweden, Morgondagens Bryggeri. This is Hockeypulver, a Berliner Weiße with raspberries, blueberries, passionfruit, strawberries and blackcurrants and a shitload of Hockeypulver, a Swedish licorice powder candy. These guys are mental, and I love it!

Watching some Thrones, getting ready for the final season...

This is amazing. Cloudy pour with lasting thick lacing/head retention the whole glass. Aromas and flavors of huge red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread dough, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 8.5%. Amazing Magnum, Nugget, Centennial, Simcoe, Citra, & Azacca profile. Super juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hops complexity; with a great balancing bready malt backbone. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. There is zero reason for them to release a 3.0 Ruination, even though they had planned on it last year. I need to buy this more often. I like it more than the original Ruination. This has everything you would want between classic/modern hop complexity.

My wife eats that stuff like there’s no tomorrow. Your licorice and salt candies are an acquired taste, but they’ve grown on me over the years.

    Cheers, man!

Yeah, it’s a very Scandinavian thing, just like we think American candy is ridiculously sweet.

Fantastic imperial stout. Dense oil pour; great head retention/lacing for the ABV. Aromas and flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, pineapple, coconut, toasted biscuit, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, and tobacco. Very slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Very mild herbal, roast, char bitterness; and fruit tartness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; Very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is amazing. Slight slickness, sticky hops, chalky roast, and fruit tang. Slightly increasing lingering bitter dryness; no cloying/astringency. Dangerously smooth, minimal warming 12.8%. Amazingly rich dessert stout malt complexity; with nice coconut/pineapple presence, without being overdone. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. Still feels like a typical imperial stout from both breweries.

Sliding into the DMs by Evil Genius. It's a beautiful dark brown with a somewhat lasting head that leaves very nice lacing. A real looker. It has sweet coffee/mocha as the dominant aroma & flavor. Evil Genius has let me down many times. I keep going for the catchy names. This one is a respectable effort on their part. I wouldn't seek it out, but Wifey really liked it. She loves coffee flavors in her beers.

Takes a lot of talent to make a 23 minute track work, but if anyone can, it’s Devin.

I’m in India where they have both types of beer - big bottles and small bottles. It seems it is one of the few places in the world where it impossible to find an india pale ale or nearly anything other than Kingfisher.

    But the scenery is impressive.

I finally got to try Firestone Walker's Sucaba British Barley Wine, ABV 11.30%. Sweet, toffee, caramel, significant vanilla, bourbon, maybe red wine, a delicious and complex blend of flavors, very drinkable, delicious.

Awesome batch this year as always. Lasting head retention/thick lacing the whole glass. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light peppercorn, and pine hops; with balanced caramel, toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced creamy/bready malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Amazingly drinkable. Super juicy and fairly dank/earthy Chinook, Centennial, Cascade hops; perfect bready malt balance, not overly sweet/heavy feeling from lingering resin dryness. I love C hops all year, the fresh hops are very obvious with the herbal/spicy quality going on. I keep grabbing more singles, this holds up amazingly over many months.

Beer #2. My favorite brewery and probably my favorite stout. I’ve had it many times but never properly reviewed it, so fixing that right now.

I bought this off the "new" arrival shelf at my weekly stop not realizing it was six months old. Good enough, but I wouldn't have paid what I paid for a BBA coffee porter had I checked the date. Very little bourbon or coffee at this point. Oh well. Cheers all!

Good morning BAs. My first KBS of the season, bottled 2/7/19:

Smooth coffee and bittersweet dark chocolate. Really enjoying this year’s batch. We have a wedding to attend later today, out of town, so maybe save me a seat late tonight ... cheers virtual bar mates, and have a great Saturday!
