Dark Lord Day (2019)

I always thought FVM 17 got a worse rep than it should’ve. I thought it was quite sweet and all, and it’s not my favorite variant, but it seems like people like to shit on it because it’s the thing to do and ‘everyone’s doin’ it.’ I’d take it 10X over Turtledogg!

I would guess that there will be some sort of Cognac and/or Brandy barrel aged variant as well.

 

They should really just stick with bourbon, DL really shines there. Unless they finish with some Port or Sherry as mentioned above, I'd rather they end the experiments with other barrels. It's not been pretty.

100% agree. i had FVM17 shortly after the fest (july maybe?) and while the muscat barrels don’t exactly compliment dark lord the greatest there was a great roasty, chocolate, coffee thing going on in the finish. like a s’mores / coffee taste. it’s much better than people make it out to be. now, as for how it has aged i cannot say since i haven’t had it since.

 

I had an FVM 17 about a year after DLD. Friend and I got halfway through the bottle before we dumped it in the sink. It had a really bizarre clove-like flavor that was unbearable after the first glass.

 

I’d there some kind of issue between FFF and Mikerphone? It’s strange that Mikerphone isn’t ever at Dark Lord and FFF is never at Mikerphone events. Anyone have the scoop on this?

 

12,000 people are getting a barrel-aged variant. that’s a lot of BA beer. some people are going to get weird wine barrels, and yes, some people are going to get turtledogged.

The “Pale Pauper Day” probably didn’t help sow any friendship between the the two.

My guess is they’re fine, but both perfectly happy to be doing their own separate things.

I guess after looking at it, I've only had the Muscat ones. Hard pass. They were so sweet I wanted to lick the dirt to get the taste out of my mouth like Homer in the episode where they go to Brazil. Regular/the other variants are already nearing the end of my sweetness tolerance.

I don't know why everyone hates on turtledogg. When you trade it for BA Afogatto it tastes just fine.

 

I liked Trump and Pump. But then again, the words "too sweet" are not in my vocabulary.

 

That's absolutely a choice they make--nothing to do with number of attendees.

They've been trying way too hard to stay "NOT NORMAL"...hopefully the lawsuit against Abnormal burnt them out on that front. Their DL variants need to be a little less abnormal and a little more Abnormal.

 

i was thinking perhaps it’s easier to obtain random wine barrels. maybe the demand isn’t there right now like it is for bourbon barrels. floyds definitely playing that off though as “it’s not normal.”
