Going to be in Soho for the day. Might try and take the subway to Brooklyn to Other Half if I have time. If not, are there any places near Soho that have Other Half on tap?

It’s only 8 stops on F train from Broadway Lafayette to Smith/9th. As long as no train issues (not something that’s ever guaranteed these days), then should only be around a 45 min round trip on subway. Worth it IMO.

You can also use this to determine exactly when to drain the last of your glass:

Fools Gold is usually a pretty good spot a few blocks east of SOHO, though it looks like they only have Green City on tap.

or Blind tiger just north of soho

I would put EQ at the same level as OH in terms of hazy IPAs and they got into the game late, relatively speaking.

But having talked to various brewers, hop contracts are one of the most important business aspects to brewing beers. With the boom in craft beer there has been an increasing demand in hops (which are expensive anyway), so this doesn't surprise me. InBev being the South African hop market didn't help either.

Come to think of it, wouldn't now be the time to get into hop cultivation? Does anyone know if that industry is experiencing corresponding exponential growth? I would imagine you don't even need to be industrial in scale; seems like a rooftop hop grower in Brooklyn could make a decent living if they developed unique strains that only local brewers could access, giving you differentiation and so on.

Living in the Village I can attest to this. I have done it many times and works great if you have one or two too many to drive. The steps up Smith/9th can be fun as well.

I would add Carmine Street Beers as well. Not cheap, but solid tap options and good to-go can choices if you get them fresh.

I would recommend Carmine and Blind Tiger as well. If you go to BT during the day, it’s not usually too crowded. Plus they always have an awesome tap list outside of OH beers.

This is my only gripe with them. So much stuff sits for so long and they have so much unrefrigerated hoppy beer.

Is Other Half’s new barrel aged theme Black and Gold?

Need to pellet-ize them or cryo. Very few breweries make very few beers with full hop cones.

True. I'm daydreaming again, imagining I'd found a loophole to make a living beer-adjacent. If growing hops is anything like growing marijuana I'd suck pretty bad at it based on my experiences in college.

Quick question for those who are regulars at these releases, I've only been to OH once before on a non release day. I know the days of lining up at 3 and 4AM are over and the cans are lasting longer, if I show up around 11 Saturday should I be good?

You will likely get most of, if not everything released Sat. Some of the stuff mid week may be gone by then, but could be around still. Blueberry Crunchee was kind of a sleeper, in that it wasn't hugely hyped or on lots of peoples radars pre release, but after it came over people loved it. Theres a chance the Rapsberry one goes quick, but I would say you should be good if you are there for 11. Hoping it lasts till noonish, I want a 4 pack ha
