My favorite local bar/bottleshop is doing a tap takeover of all the Ommegang Game of Thrones beers. Sadly, I'm pretty much out of "fun money" until next Friday, otherwise I'd be hitting them this weekend.

Out getting beers for @jvgoor3786 and he decides to stand us up. Of course, he blamed others. The nerve of that guy! :rage:

Oh well, guess we’ll have have a couple more beers to split around here. The GF and I rolled up the street to share these two Gose from the brewery that produces a beer recently reviewed here, Solace Brewing:

Both fall under the name, It’s Electric, and then qualified with a fruit: Tangerine and Blueberry in these cases. The Tangerine simply uses hops (Mandarina Bavaria and El Dorado), while the Blueberry uses Mosaic and blueberry purée. I’m not sure if the Tangerine is the original, just qualified.

Both beers are quite light and unfortunately slightly watery. They are lower ABV quenchers, but could have a little more body.

The wheat and a weak Orangina scent come out of the Tangerine. However, the tangerine comes out much more distinctly in the taste. A light but obvious tartness comes with a fleeting but prominent fizziness. Missing salinity and body, this one could use a little work.

The Blueberry smells amazing - tart and semisweet expectations arise from it. The tartness comes through similar to to Tangerine, and then the easily identifiable blueberry pulp comes through. There’s the slightest hint of salinity, but overall it, too, feels like it needs just a little more character, overall.

The Blueberry seems to be closer to going a notch higher, but both might fulfill the place of being very light offerings for the upcoming summer.

I been giggling to myself since I shipped that! I've included it in every BIF box I've shipped.

Trust me - I'm more disappointed than you. My day started with your beers (already in a Ziploc) laying on my bed ready to be packed. I tossed my phone charger near them and somehow the plug managed to puncture your King Sue. I replaced that, finished packing, and headed to the airport. After four hours of delays my choices were flying to Baltimore and arriving at midnight or spending the night in Dallas and getting to DC late morning tomorrow. I decided on option 3 - cancelling my trip. I'm planning on being in Virginia again next week, but I'll be somewhere neither you nor @vabeerguy could conveniently meet me.

Sounds like the “my girlfriend lives in Canada excuse.”

Speaking of, whenever you do get to visit again, my GF is out of town on business. Sorry you’ll miss her, again.

    Mystery Beer #3
    Well, well, well.....
Now I know Im being Fkd with!
Pours, yep you guessed it a golden yellow color. This seems to be a tad lighter than the first two. However there is a nice large creamy white foam head that lingers and leaves a cap with some decent spotty lacing.
Aroma is again roasty notes of dark and milk chocolate, coffee bean, vanilla. But theres more of a bite here. Some floral hops intermingle with the toasty notes.
Taste is again bakers chocolate, coffee, toast malts. But there is a serious underlying hop bitterness. The hoppiest of the bunch so far I believe. Nice balance though between bitter and dark. Weird.
Body is more than light so med-light.
Its crisp though and theres a pretty dry finish with some hop oils coating the roof of my mouth and mid palate.
Man, Im guessing this is some kind of white stout. Its hoppy though. Almost like a white RIS? Combo of stout/ipa?
All good beers and its been a fantastic trip. Time to reveal the mysteries.....[IMG]

Son of a Baptist, an Imperial Stout brewed with coffee and cacao nibs by American brewery Epic (8% ABV).

Pours a pitch black coloration with a small, creamy head. Smells of caramel, roasted malt and a strong dark, roasted coffee note, with just a hint of dark, bitter chocolate.

Taste follows the nose, being dominated by roasted, caramel malt and dark, roasted coffee, as well as lighter notes of dark, bitter chocolate, a certain earthiness and just a hint of licorice and herbal hops. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt and coffee notes lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is probably the most coffee-forward Stout that I've ever had, but this may be due to the fact that I haven't had that many Coffee Stouts and this is by far the freshest one. The roast is definitely strong with this one, in regard to both malts and coffee, with a little caramel sweetness and bitter chocolate for balance. Absolutely lovely nose of roasted malt and coffee aromas. If you like bitter, roasted, coffee-forward Stouts then this definitely won't disappoint, although there is supposed to be a lot of batch variation due to the different coffees used with every batch.

You've instigated me and @kemoarps into sending that one a few times as well (plus, it's a pretty good one in it's own right!)!

I don't typically post 2 beers on NBS, but I picked up a 4 pack of this one on a whim, and it stared me down in my refrigerator, so, here goes...

    Founders Blushing Monk

Very nice, strong sweet berry aroma. Smells more strawberry than raspberry to me.

1 inch light pink head, over a ruby-pink, clear body with a steady stream of rising bubbles. Head recedes to a cap and ring in a few minutes, leaving sparse lacing.

Substantial body, a bit chewy on the tongue.

Initial taste is raspberries, and pretty much stays that throughout, into the finish and aftertaste. Slightly bitter finish. The berry flavor remains naturally tart. This beer is pretty much like drinking hard raspberry juice, rather than a beer. Pleasant tasting and refreshing, just like a good glass of raspberry juice would be.

I'm not including numbers for this one, since it is demanding a second tasting, when I will be a bit more prepared for the nature of this beer, and perhaps able to pick out some subtleties behind the raspberries.

    IBU: 20
    ABV: 9.2%

Exactly what I think about that beer. Its not one of my faves of theirs and it doesnt fit the style. I havent read your review but I dont get alot of tea in that one either. I do like IPLs and JA is the standard for me. This beer is not in that wheelhouse....

No, but it's also not bad. It's quite drinkable and enjoyable, but it leans heavily toward the "lager" side of things, vice the "India Pale" side.

#2, we’re at a burger place in St Paul called Red Cow that has an AMAZING beer list. This is Mornin’ Latte from Toppling Goliath.

Pours black with a rich tan head, the nose is coffee, char, stone fruit, dark chocolate, and the most delectable rich cream and sugar you’ve ever whiffed.

The coffee is forward on the taste, with the dark chocolate, char, stone fruit, and cream and sugar providing an excellent balance. This is the real deal, IMHO. World class stuff in a burger bar. What a wonderful beer nerd world we live in.

12 ounce can dated 2/26/19. Poured into a tulip glass.
Appears a bright but hazy dirty lemon. Almost non existent head that left as quickly as it appeared.
Grapefruit, lemon pulp, lemon airheads, sweetness nose.
Lemon and grapefruit first, light pineapple, lemon cookie. Pretty citrus forward with a graininess and sweet cracker finish.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin and bubbly but easy drinking.
Overall, a nice and light citrus IPA.

@Coronaeus #5. Excellent IPA. Solid fluffy head retention/light spotty lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, honeydew melon, red apple, blueberry, gooseberry, white grape/wine, citrus peel/rind, wood, onion, mint, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy wheat, sticky hops, and some resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, nicely soft, not aggressive, minimal warming 6.3%. Great Mosaic, Simcoe, Nelson profile as expected. Very vibrant, dank, earthy, and fairly juicy hop complexity; with a great clean wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering crisp dryness. A little more earthy than expected on the hops, but it delivered an enjoyable profile. 3.97

Before the current NBS BIF is consigned to history, that beer could be sent again (just not in a box going out tomorrow...).
