Pen Hopper by Monkey Fist Brewing (a new one to me) from @superspak



The head is massive on this! Leaves tons of sticky lacing. Sight to behold. This one is heavy on Chinook which I'm not a fan of, but the modern hops tame it a bit. I get a lot of lemon, grapefruit, and earth with slight tea and cattiness. Slight garlic undertones. The finish hangs on pretty tightly, with lots of resins compounding on each other. Heavy caramel malt. Very decent old school caramel-heavy IPA. 3.82 out of 5, cheers!

 

HBO crushed my dreams today of an Arya spinoff...Damn you HBO! Damn you. I'm still gonna enjoy this and watch whatever spinoff(s) they end up making



Classic and fuzzy

 

From @GreenBayBA. A Copper State beer no one added yet. This was awesome. Fantastic fluffy head retention/soapy lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of big tart/sour key limes, citrus peel/zest, lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, sea salt, coriander, hay, straw, and grass; with moderate wheat, graham cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit malts; light peppercorn, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, citrus tang, and coriander spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy wheat, lactic acid, sticky spice, and salinity in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing acidic/tangy/spicy dryness; no pucker/astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, not overly lactic/salty, 4.5%. Awesome balance of juicy/vibrant key limes, Lacto complexity, salt, and spice; with a nice pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity for the ABV. Zero residual sweetness with crisp acidic/tangy dryness. Spot on style example all around. 4.13

Giving this beer another try as I wasn't overly impressed the first time around. Definitely upping my score, much better this time!



Feeling a little nostalgic and Broadway-like while watching the Freddy Awards live on TV with my wife. (Giving up sports to watch this.) The Freddies is a local annual award ceremony / awards show recognizing outstanding performances for High School Theater, it's a big deal and the talent is mind blowing. The Freddies are the equivalent of the Tony's for Broadway.

Couple of Miller Lites poured into a jar glass with fresh lime squeezed in to start. My summer go to, just fantastic. Time for a hop check while finishing off last summer's bottle of 1800. Summer drinking is upon us! SIP!

Yes, it's really as good as it looks. An anomaly but very much an accurate one, this 10.5% ABV PORTER has the textbook body and slickness of a porter without the roastiness of the stout - yet still has an insane ABV. This beer from Back Forty out of Gadsen, AL was one of the best beers I picked up from the region. Like peanut butter candy. Still good a year later.
