    That's a welcome surprise!

My very underwhelming new beer for today...

I'm not a fan of tripels in general, but I stocked up on six different examples to get a feel for the style. I only had this one and the NB original tripel left to review. This is way too sweet, especially at the finish, where the great examples reign things in and find a wonderful balance. Cheers all!

Canned 7/15/19. DDH WCIPA with Mosaic and Nelson.

This is just fantastic! You definitely get that gooseberry / white wine thing from the Nelson, a touch of dankness. It's just overall a delicious tasting IPA. Wish I had bought more than a 4-pack.

I never liked Tripels either! What are your other 4 in the lineup? My wife is a big fan of Allagash Curieux, but that's sorta cheating with the bourbon barrels.

Starting off with this one from Captain Lawrence. I gotta be honest, I think I enjoyed their beers more before they jumped on the haze craze. None of them have worked for me so far and, at an $18.50 price point, consumers deserve better. I would definitely rather stand in line at a reputable brewer and pay $20-24 per 4-pack, or just go with a distribution footprint that I enjoy. I think it's safe to say that this go-round with Captain Lawrence will probably be my last for the foreseeable future. Cheers!!!
P.S. As the old adage goes: "Just cuz you pour syrup on shit, it doesn't make it a pancake."

    Nice glass indeed
Maybe try some of the classics without sweeteners or other additions. I like honey and I like beer, but most of the time the combination does not really work for me.
    Cheers!

Already reviewed Westmalle, Chimay, Strafe Henrik & Corsendonk. I like to accumulate groups of Belgian beers and then do all the reviews over a week or two. I did this with Belgian Strong Dark Ale last winter and it really helps highlight the differences between beers. Next up is strong pales after Oktoberfest & fresh hops season.

Westvleteren # 12. Not bad for a hotel beer indeed. It has been many years since I had this. Could not even remember the taste.
Best is to give this beer about a year or so of course. But since I have two sixpacks and the glass in the back of my car ... And for a nice price too. Sometimes these sixpacks are on sale without any reservation at Westvleteren. Problem is you never can tell when ...

I know it is a somewhat overrated beer. Or better; overpriced in the parallel market. Awesome beer when get it for the normal price (around 3,80 a bottle I believe).

    Cheers from Belgium!

With the arrival of RR PtE and Blind Pig on draft to Vermont as well as Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, and the Hop Concept last week, I consider myself very lucky to live where I live. Here's hoping it's not a one shot deal!

    375 ml. bottle.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 1/2 inch light pinkish/tan head over a plum skin body with some sticky lacing. Nose of predominately raspberry with a bit of oak. Taste mirrors nose very nicely with a very tart and dry finish. Nice feel and overall, bye-bye tooth enamel!

    Seriously sour and delicious.
    Cheers!!
