Crosstoberfest Festbier


Clear light yellow color with good cap and lacing.

Moderate aroma of rich grain and floral hops.

Taste is malt forward with a smooth graininess. Hop influence is more bitter than the scent implies but it's actually more of a firmness rather than bitterness. Sweetness is present but in a restrained way that diminishes toward the finish where it's offset by the hops with the whole resolving into dryness.

Medium texture with balancing carbonation.

Overall it's refreshing and balanced, very suitable for a festbier and I wouldn't mind if they offered it year round.

 

HeadFlyer Dreamshake

 

Awesome imperial stout, 2017 batch. Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, fudge, roasted nuts, and toasted dark bread malts; with lighter notes of vanilla, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, raisin, prune, fig, date, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, spicy hop; and roast/charred bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and full body. Very creamy, silky, bready malt mouthfeel; light slickness, sticky hops, and chalky char/roast malts. Lightly increasing bitter/roasted dryness. No cloying, acrid, astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping, mild increasing warmth of 11.5%. Spot on stuff for an imperial stout. Amazingly rich dark/black/roasted malt complexity, balancing earthy hops, and restrained fruity yeast notes. Not too overly bitter or acrid/roasty. Feels almost like an imperial version of The Poet. This batch doesn't feel quite as impressive as 2016 was, but I still love it. Still more on the shelf, just got this a few weeks ago.

I went out to the Farmers Market early because today is the collision of the State Fair, the Florida-South Carolina football game, and a tropical storm. Absolutely nothing likely to go wrong.

Time to break out the Westbrook Mexican Cake

I have coffee approximately once a month. This is it this month.

 

Morning...
Cut a load of firewood yesterday. Today I get to unload, split, and stack.
A beer will get me going and more will be needed throughout the day.

 

Brunch with the King....

 

Got about 3/4 of the way through this bad boy last night watching slashers so I put my stopper in and saved the rest. I won't complain about some Darkness for brunch Cheers y'all.

 

Nice citrus and hops shine through. Beautifully crafted beer!
