Bell's Leaves of Grass Series IV: To A Locomotive In Winter. Awesome. Lasting head retention/thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, oyster, peat smoke, leather, tobacco, brine, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of dark fruit, herbal, wood, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal, wood, grass, pepper, roast, charred bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; very creamy/bready/grainy malts; some sticky hops, chalky roast, and light resin/salinity in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. No cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Minimal warming alcohol for 6%. Smooth, nicely soft and not overly bitter/charred. Awesome balance of rich malts and peat smoke complexity; with solid earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Light residual sweetness from lingering dryness. Spot on smoked porter as expected. A lot of peat and brine smokey notes, but not overwhelming. Glad I got the pack. 4.13

Status update from 40.0379° N, 76.3055° W: I went to bed shortly after Midnight (EST), having stayed up to watch the New Year arrive for the first time in probably twenty (20) years. My Christmas tree, the first in my eleven (11) years here at Chez Woody, is down & out on the front porch awaiting pick-up. I had quite a bit of needle-sweeping to do after its departure, but status is once again quo. The pork & sauerkraut for later is now down to a simmer in the crock pots & it smells delish. I learned a while back to add baby-cut carrots to cut some of the acidity of the sauerkraut, which I have done. Back to work tomorrow for the first time in thirteen (13) calendar days! Jeez-O, man, I want a real job. I have switched the calendars, made some payments (including the mortgage) & NOW, right NOW, I am drinking:

This one is named for Eddie Murray, but the O's beer that I REALLY want to score is Escutcheon's Fancy Clancy. I first met him through a co-worker of my maternal aunt's who was a fellow vendor. I even profiled him for a base newspaper on the West Coast, increasing his fame!
