Fair States Purple Tooth Wine-barrel Aged Imperial Stout, 9% ABV. This is based on their Giantsbane stout. Pours black with a slight brown head. Nose is sweet grape and chocolate. Taste is tart grape, slight chocolate, roast malt, some bitterness, no sweetness - not a pastry stout. Decent but dry mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Being a Packers fan, not sure what possessed me to try a beer from Minnesota with purple in the name. My wife even commented on that. Still trying new beers and putting off snowblowing. May actually wait until it calms down on Sunday since I have WAY MORE than enough beer and meat to get through.

Cold, windy day here in DC, Has me feeling very low energy. So we're skipping the cardio, cancelling the evening plans, and playing video games all night. Maybe we'll even go the extra lazy mile and order food when the time comes, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it!
Alewerks Tavern Brown Ale. Toasty malts, brown sugar, dark bread. Alewerks does a lot of things well and this Brown ale is no exception!

Partially cloudy, pale yellow body with a one-finger thick head; dense and foamy; excellent rings and sheets of foam cling to the glass. Mild cereal grain base aroma, a bit sweet, with a delicate touch of lemon riding atop. An interesting cracker flavor greets the palate and transitions to a mild, dull citrus quality; dull hop bitterness. Medium body; smooth and velvety; primarily dry throughout.

Overall, this is an interesting and intriguing American pale ale, capitalizing on the haze craze yet adding some distinct cereal grain notes without undue citrus character. Very refreshing on many levels.

...an interesting thing I found when researching the beer online for BA notes: the can lists the beer as an American pale ale, the brewery's on-tap list has it as an IPA, and their to-go cans list on the web has it as a DIPA...a quick email to the brewery (with an equally quick response followed:

To me (From Chris Betts of the brewery):

Hi Dave! Technically it is both an IPA and a Pale Ale because IPAs are part of the Pale Ale category... hence the interchanging between style names on our end. We'll stick with the can description of Pale Ale (and have changed our website accordingly) - cheers!

Subject: What kind of beer style is Cromulent?

Message: The can labels the beer as "American Pale Ale"

Your web site's On Tap menus lists the beer as "IPA"

Your web site's "Beer To-Go" lists it as "DIPA"

Is there a true answer to this question? Perhaps a fourth beer style category to describe it??

    Just curious...

I should really save these beers for the people who don't know any better, but that would be rude. It would also be foolish to waste beer that others can't get. Hunter, stfu and be thankful. I always am, truly. Cheers, everyone!

Just getting into the beginning of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a MetroidVania I've been meaning to pick up for some time. So far so good!
Silver Branch Sacred Table, an Abbey Single from Silver Spring MD. Citrus/rind, coriander, dark bready malts and a hint of caramel/brown sugar. I'm no expert on this style but it's damn good regardless. I'll be seeing 1917 in Silver Spring tomorrow night and plan on swinging through Silver Branch beforehand.

Just returned from a 5 hour round trip to Portland. Dropped $550 between Allagash, Oxbow and Maine Mead Works. I had never tried a Mead so figured it's as good a time as any since they're next door to Oxbow. Oxbow really needs to work on their signage as I drove by it three times.

Didn't buy any hops which is a first for me, but I have easy access to Fox Farm and Tree House so it wasn't necessary.

I'm drinking Oxbow 3 Barrels Deep.

    Happy Friday!
