What beer are you drinking now? #2649

I'm drinking a R&D 7 Saturdays on tap at my local tap house. A nice local NC West Coast IPA.

 

2018 is tasting fantastic as expected. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, fudge, spicy rye, dark bread/crust, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, pecan nuttiness, licorice, raisin, fig, and date; with lighter notes of smoke, char, leather, tobacco, herbal, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, peppery, roast/char bitterness; and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Full bodied creamy, silky, velvety, bready malts; lightly slickness, sticky hops, and chalky char/roast in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing hop/roast/char dryness, no cloying/acrid/astringent. Dangerously smooth. Mildly warming 11.5%, and minimal barrel booze. This is a flat out amazing beer for the price. For being partial barrel aged, there is still plenty of barrel character going on. Big rich malt complexity, in combination with pecans and fruity yeast esters. Still just as impressive for being 1.5% less ABV currently. A bit thinner, but still as silky/velvety/rich on malts as usual. Got a 6 pack of the 2019 cans recently.

Super fresh Ghost In The Machine. 1/7/20. Not much difference between this and the 12/27. I might even prefer the 12/27 just a touch more. Maybe I'm crazy.

I'm gonna do another review.

I gave this one a 4.39/5. A very clean and well made old school style IPA that's a great collaboration between 2 of the best breweries in the Great Lakes region. Nice tropical citra hop flavor that fades to a dry bitterness on the end. Not a hopped out juice bomb by any means, but just a great throwback to what a great IPA was 4 years ago when people preferred the bitter bite and more clean flavor to the stick to your teeth juice bomb.

Edit: Honestly I may have poured this one a bit under temperature because my last 1 or 2 drinks of the glass was really picking up more of the tropical goodness.

Nice roasty, proper, stout with a little peanut butter whiskey sidecar. Both good, going to bed after my 1 and a half and done.
