First full beer? Coors Extra Gold. Still one of my favorite AALs to this day (when you can find it)

No, surprise for me it was Budweiser. I'd say during my high school years. Had a few liquor stores that didn't always card if you looked old enough.

Didn't HAVE to be a full beer, but that's okay!

Coors banquet. In the mid 70s in my part of the world, Coors was the new thing, having just recently expanded east, and was in high demand. So Coors was cool. One day, I was hanging out with some coworkers after closing shop, underage of course, and the boss handed me one. Two things made me like it: it wasn’t too bad, actually, for a kid who wasn’t a beer drinker, and because I really wanted to be cool with the other guys. Drank mostly Coors for years afterward.

It was a sip of my dad’s Budweiser when I was 8. I spit it out. He poured some out for the dog and she wouldn’t even touch it.

My first beer ever was at the tender age of 13....I was cooking a German dish for class and it included beer in the recipe. It was a Heineken and I did not care for it. Fast forward a few years and my foray into craft beer was New Belgium Abbey Ale. I remember wanting a "high gravity" beer as they were called in TN back in 2008. Delicious. The brewery that really got me hooked on good craft was Neshaminy Creek back in 2013 when I was living in Philly. Friends took me to the brewery and I remember having Concrete Pillow and Leon stout....discovered a local bottle shop and never looked back.

Just for the fun of a statistical mind, I am keeping a tally of votes including anyone that makes two or three guesses as to what it was, and I have PBR and Bud with 8, Schlitz and Heineken at 6, and Miller and Oly at 5. This is counting home and Twitter votes.

I still think it’s a quality AAL, but unfortunately they changed the bottle. A ridiculous change, that bottle shape was unique and you knew who was drinking it from 50 ft away, imo great advertising.

A sip of Olympia, from my dad, at his card game at our house. Early to mid 70's im guessing.

Well, they changed the bottle originally in the '60s - the more extreme original (left), called the "perfume bottle" by the ad agency internally, won a design prize but wasn't too popular at the breweries, since they had a habit of falling off the bottling line.:astonished:

Michelob went from selling 7M bbl/yr. in the early 80s (7th best selling beer in the US) to around 140,000 bbl. in 2011 - so it's understandable AB doesn't want to spend the money on the bottle.

When that "perfume" bottle was first released, Michelob typically sold for twice Budweiser's price ($2.25 vs $1.25, sixpack T/A's, in NJ 1964) or over $18 in 2020 dollars.

Oh, yeah - They changed the recipe, too, in 2007 - so it is no longer an AAL, now it's a AML (all-malt lager) again...which it was from 1896 to 1960 (when it was draught-only).

I’m not old enough to remember the old bottles, I bet they were horrible on the bottling line, but I love the shape of the bottles from the 70s and 80s. When we were in HS if any bar in Trenton had it on tap it got pounded, there was a small bar off Lalor St by the car wash that used the old fashioned goblets for a quarter. And equal pours of Schaefer was .15 and Bud .20. Good times, with $2 you could raise hell.
