Even at shares, who brings a magnum? Unless its a really big share, even then, given all the other bottles, you often end up dumping more than half the bottle.

Its the one format I don't get. Its just to big.

From what I've seen most magnums turn into trophies because you can never find the right venue to open them.

Don't understand the long rant. A bottle share with 6 people can easily pour ~8oz each.

You've never gone to a share where a magnum gets opened? It's always fun.

More of an opinion than a rant. And if Magnums work for you, by all means buy them.

The last share with mags that I attended had about a dozen of them lined up against the wall, many were hardly touched.

But to be fair, it was a big share, with an enormous amount of great stuff being opened, so it wasn't just the mags that were getting dumped at the end of the night.

Obviously the format works for some or they wouldn't sell them.

    They're just not for me.

Every magnum I've seen usually works out to almost double the regular per ounce price. I think the packaging is expensive, plus it's considered a premium item.

If BT is now $32 per regular bottle, I'd predict a magnum comes in at $125.

Realistically it should be $75. The glass itself should be right around $10. I own two magnums. One is right on the money, the second is $50 more expensive then it should be. It all depends on how the Bruery wants to price them.

I don’t follow the Bruery like I used to. Did BT change formats?

I'm not sure where it was posted, but I guess they're doing a special release of BT in magnums.
Actually no, I think I just misread an earlier post. Terreux is doing a magnum of something new and someone commented a magnum of BT would be nice.

They have expanded BT formats to include 16oz cans. And BT variants also show up in 16oz cans or 375 ml bottles with increasing frequency. But you can still get the 750 ml bottles.

A welcomed change for many of us.

    What!?!? RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!!!

Just kidding... I almost had a full month (as did everyone else!) to buy it, and got three from there. I’m happy with that.

Honestly, line shares are the best time to open up a magnum. You are just running down the line giving a whole bunch of people a little bit and boom, it's done. Regular shares, it's tougher of course. I'd rather just set it up where a few people come over the house for a game/movie/etc. night and just give everyone a full pour.

I have a Magnum of Westbrook Brewing - Fruit/Wood/Time Raspberry Port Pipe Finish $50 that I'm opening up once this pandemic slows and we can get back outside.

Man you should never have drain pours of many good beers at a share. Somebody has to take control! Hell, if there is beer left from what I brought. I'm not leaving until I've finished it!! It's the principality of it Smokie!!

While we are getting a bit off topic, it is worth commenting on.

Maybe its a Southern California thing, But virtually every share I go to these days ends with a lot of beer going down the drain. And many are really good beers, high end beers, beers people trade for.

Admittedly, It did take a little time for me to adjust to this.

But the thinking goes like this.

You can save a beer for that special occasion or prefect moment. Which generally results in a lot of good beers accumulating in your cellar aging well past their prime. We all know people with hundreds of bottles on hand. Or you can bring it to one of these shares, where many like minded people will try it share it, discuss it, rate it and generally enjoy it, before moving on to the next one.

In the end, I've come to realize, I enjoy sharing good beer with my fellow BA's, much than I enjoy holding on to it for a special occasion, even if half of it gets dumped.

Why is beer getting dumped after a share? Cap/cork them and take a few days to finish the really good ones at least. Some might be flat but they still taste good...
