My friend who managed a bottle shop in St. Pete left to open a competitor’s store in Seminole, FL in 2017. She previously would order Peche Mortel because it is so good/and it sold well...recently, I finally made it up to the Seminole store (she has long since moved on) and asked about her, and ultimately Peche Mortel. I was told the distribution stopped years ago, and the store’s assistant manager was surprised I found dusty bottles on a shelf in the back of the store...next time I visit I’m going to clear the shelf...Cheers!

 

Hot & humid in the Philly burbs. I figured I'd go for an American Pale Ale. Sounded refreshing. So I'm drinking Touch of Sunshine by Monkey Fist Brewing. It's an interesting take on an APA. It's full of citrus aromas and flavors. Grapefruit, lemon, orange. But there's also a strong malt backbone of caramel and molasses.

 

Since I retired and the whole virus thing I've been ordering beer on line. A little hit and miss on freshness. Yesterday I got a couple of mixed 12 packs. One from Hawaii and this one from Alaska. Why not. Best by date 8/27/20 on this one. Actually a decent beer.

 

New Saison from Allagash released in growlers only. Brewed with fresh wild blueberries. Absurdly drinkable.

 

The most OK beer on the planet besides Miller Lite which is a fine pilsner after all.

 

Big storms the past 20 hours, but thankfully no Hailstorms. I may be tempting fate with this pour.

Are airports open again? I just drove past the bus center that takes people to the airports in the area and there didn't seem to be anyone parked there.

The storms were so bad here the cart holder things at the grocery store got pushed 100 feet or so. Now it's Sunny like nothing happened. I swear anything that can happen today is bound to happen. I should stay the fuck home

 

Old Nation M-43. Amazing NEIPA as always. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, orange juice, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with wheat, biscuit dough, light honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, grassy, zesty, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; very creamy, bready, grainy wheat/oats, and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very dank/juicy hops, with perfect wheat, oat, malt malt balance. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness, amazing soft feel. Super easy drinking. Glad to have this as a year round available beer. This is one of my top most purchased beers ever at the moment. It just doesn't get any better for the style vs availability. Every Old Nation NEIPA is better than most anything else I've had in the state. DDH is just as impressive; but a bit more bitter, resinous, dank, and earthy.
