Just cracked a HDHC ROC Showers - one of the best beers from OH in awhile

Onto HDHC ACE. Honestly it has been awhile since I had regular ACE. Don’t care how things are better/worse than the old days - this is a great beer. Clearly a 5.1 on Untappd

@Msudukie is so right. Every time I leave NYC and eagerly seek out IPA greatness it's a much more difficult task- maybe there's just one brewer nailing it, and they don't have a fresh batch out or whatever. We can quibble over Other Half's quality from batch to batch, year to year (I will continue to scrutinize the hell out their Galaxy beers), but we should not lose sight of the embarrassment of beer riches we're bestowed with.

Dream city is super legit. Good call @SeanEDPBK

    ACE is also super solid

So, after having a bunch of these hdhc releases (Mylar, Dream City, Hop Showers) I’m noticing the same(ish) melon flavor in all three.. and as much as I like the subtle melon thing, this seems to be kind of too much. Most surprised at how much it changes the hop showers. Had a small green, citra galaxy and ddh dmd in the middle of all of these (we’re talking over multiple days here people, I’m not on a @RauchbierFan33 bender) and enjoyed those way more than the hdhc’s.

Yeah, it's too much in Mylar. I don't know that I expect it to be much better in a week or two. I don't think it's hdhc though, I think it's just the yeast and them pushing it for more of those notes. Maybe they figure more yeast flavor will offset the extra hoppiness? I still chuckle about that TERRIBLE batch of Daydream Layers that had way too much melon.

Assuming we're talking about the same Daydream Layers, that was by far the worst OH IPA I've ever had. The only pour I've got at the brewery that I couldn't finish, even with a buddy to help.

I agree, it's sweet... But it still maintained some dank and bitter (HDHC Mylar). I'm liking it, but could in fairness due with less sweet and more bite. Take that for what it's worth.

HDHC AME is not as good as I remember AME to be, but it hits the spot while I listen to the city being shelled from every angle.

Had the HDHC ACE last night. Had some dankness missing from the mylar, which I think balanced a bit better. Probably about as good as a B+ batch of ACE, insofar as I can recall my exact feelings on the multiple batches I've had. Definitely sweeter though. I had a Snorkel SIPA with citra from Hop Butcher right before, which I found to be more refreshing and cleaner. kind of comparing a moderately priced dry-ish Riesling you can drink down a whole bottle of versus an expensive (very much sweet) one more appropriate for very spicy food or dessert, if that makes any sense.

Really not feeling these HDHC beers. The hop showers tastes like I’m sucking on a melon rind and smells like pure hop pellets. Ugh. This ruined Hop Showers.

I imagine that - like me - you’ve been gargling Palantine to get rid of the taste

A dash of Palantine with a swig of Local Boy is the concoction to get this shitty taste out of my mouth.

Well, as much as I've bemoaned Mylar, hdhc fort point is drinking great right now after being written off early. Let's not make the mistake of drinking these hdhc cans too early!

Thought everyone thought both Fort Points were really good, but, the edge went to DDH?

/shrug maybe, just seemed like hdhc caught a lot of flack early because it wasn't the ddh.

From ddh to triple dry hopped to hdhc. What's next for other half? Sorry to bring this up but something is really off with oh ipas lately. Though I hear one of their former Brewer's now works for mountain walking brewing and they are making some stellar haze. You would be surprised how one brewer can change the dynamic of a brewery. Just look what happened to lic beer project when Anthony left to start root & branch
