The picks! The red jazz picks. They look like EJ TX jazz picks.

Never played the NYXLs. I've been loyal to DR Pure Blues for years. l'll play Fender Bullets when the PBs are (frequently) unavailable, but it's pure nickel or air guitar for me.

 

I think they're similar to his picks. They're Jim Dunlop Jazz III's. I've been using them for years. Basically with a smaller pick, the distance the tip of the pick needs to travel in an alternate picking context is much shorter than a larger pick, so you get greater speed with a smaller pick.
