The Reuben's crush is a FH version? That would be pretty cool!

Well, it is now obvious I have not a clue either. I would argue you know more than me. Apologies to everyone (and @afrokaze) for the confusion. I do know this about Breakside, I’ve enjoyed the beers I have had. Here’s the beer that showed up at yoke’s the other day (not even wonderlust )

PS...still no FH in the TC, except for pert near (which was just ok). What’s up with that Fremont :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ?

Most of the text on the can is not visible in the photo, but my guess is that it's just regular Breakside IPA. The bottle pictured at the brewery website shows an eagle's head too.

And I agree, I've liked the five Breakside beers I've ever had too.

That is Breakside's flagship IPA, which recently became available in 4-pack cans for the first time.

It is not one of Breakside's fresh hop beers for 2020, but it is a damn good IPA.

Breakside's canned fresh hop beers look like this:

They have "FRESH HOP 2020" in big white letters on the side of the can. If it doesn't look like this, and you don't see "FRESH HOP 2020," then it is not a Breakside fresh hop beer for 2020.

Just cracked my first can of Fresh Hop Double Crush, which I picked up yesterday at the brewery. This is one murk bomb I can definitely get behind.

Fresh Hop mass ascension is worth a trip to either Ex Novo location. It has everything I love about FH beers

Not only that, it appears to be named after a Skinny Puppy song. I approve completely.

If you like your Fresh Hop IPAs bitter, Montvilla's beer is is pretty good. Pretty Old school

This is why the term "wet hop" makes so much more sense. Hops are typically kilned, raw hops are not a common beverage ingredient. The defining feature of these beers is the use of hop cones that skipped the final process in their typical journey to kettle
And everyone is free to disagree with sierra on this issue but I'm pretty sure that they are using this the way that the beer industry always has. "Fresh hops" would always have been (up until the first commercial wet hop.beer, which I'd bet a case of beer was produced after celebration was on the market) this years harvest of hops, right after they were done drying.

Pre pelletization and solid refrigeration I'd imagine that hops used in the spring would have degraded somewhat and have a noticeably duller quality.

Anyway, I know I'm the foreigner here so I'll adapt to your local dialect but I don't want to hear about how yinz using confusing terminology caused y'all to be confused.

P.S. the "flash kilned" citra pale ale I got from Russian river did not excite my wet hop regions :flushed:

Georgetown apparently has Fresh Hop Johnny Utah at the moment. This was one of the two beers that elevated Georgetown from "Local brewery that does decent stuff" (back in the day of ubiquitous Manny's and nothing else) to "Holy damn, these guys are among the best in the state." Fresh Hop Cousin Eddie was the other. Bodhizafa as a year-round beer clinched it.

Not sure I'll be able to get out there and get a growler.

My best friend dropped off some SIG Strata fresh hop cans last night direct from Tacoma. One hazy, one not. Looking like the goal of 25 this year will be a reality.

Fresh is not the same thing as dry. Do you call fresh herbs wet herbs? Do we call dried herbs fresh herbs? Nope nope. [plants himself firmly on his hill]

It's not confusing. It's annoying. Sure they can be interchangeable, but the argument that it's different is disingenuous and it's the hill I will gladly die on. ever. year. I know most people don't care and that's fine and I'm just an online rando that loves his fresh hop beers.

I'll just end with this: we have Fresh Hop Festivals. We don't have Wet Hop Festivals.

I'm heading down that way on Sunday, maybe I can snag one if it's still there.

Would you call an unbaked pizza a "fresh pizza"?

I understand that different industries use different terminologies. Brewers have referred to "fresh hops" for a long time to mean dried hops from the fresh yearly harvest. For brewers, for centuries, the concept of "fresh" hops was/is dried hops that are recently harvested vs the dried hops that have been stored for the year (or vs the "aged" hops that are used in lambic and some other styles).

So brewers are not wrong to advertise that a particular beer is made with "fresh" hops when it uses dried hops. Because dry is the standard form of hops in the industry it makes sense to use the term "wet" to contrast beers made with this extremely unique technique.

I'll enjoy them whatever their called.but when people inevitably get confused because some brewers continue to use the traditional definition of fresh hops just recognize that it's you who argue that undried hops who are adding the confusion by shifting the definition. To me, its more logical to make a new term for a new technique. Wet hop was what I was first introduced to and it makes sense to me. I would also accept "raw hop"

Now that's pretty tempting. I plan to drive down to Eugene tomorrow, and it wouldn't be that far out of my way to make a quick detour over to Westside. Hmmm...
