This is going to be an even bigger bloodbath than we anticipated. Does anyone else here share Mr. Phillips's concern that the pandemic isn't going to end in 2021? I do.. mostly because I have noticed over the years that there are people who have a tendency to not do what's in the best interests of themselves and society.

I do hope that the downtown area is able to recover in some fashion, but I agree with the several previous posters that I just don't see it happening. Blue Star was predictable as $4 donuts is a tough sell even in the best of times, but I think we'll see more venerable institutions failing more frequently and harder in 2021.

That being said, being able to buy bottles like 2011 Sanctification for $13 is pretty cool. Looks like Bailey's is digging deep into the cellar to pay the bills.

It is only going to get worse as people lose their ability to pay high rents. It's already getting far worse here in Salem. For such a low wage economy apartment rent was crazy high...I see the rents beginning to fall. But too late.
It's not just mental casualties and drug addicts now. Regular working people.
Something has to change. But in a nation were inflated property values are peoples only real hope at wealth it won't.
A terrible future..and more disease and more natural disasters.

Agreed. Lot of good deals to be had, which makes it all the more easy to help out.

went on a bike ride with my wife and kids around downtown / inner eastside. big mistake. i worked downtown for almost a decade, but even i was shocked at how bad it is. local politicians have failed us (big surprise). anybody who lives downtown or has a business down there is SOL

Am at the Apex, and my jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw the unimaginable. The Apex is now accepting credit cards. Everything else here is pretty much the same (great taplist, lousy customer service, high prices, etc)

They have two large flat screen TVs showing motorcycle racing. Of course absolutely no one is watching it, but at least they're not showing any of those awful football, baseball or basketball games (that someone might actually want to watch).

Just as an "oh by the way". Orval Day is this Saturday, and Beermongers is having some sort of event. Not sure what exactly they'll be doing for Orval day, but it's always been pretty outstanding in the past. I know I plan to stop by to find out.

(Should at least be vintage bottles of Orval for sale).

Also, for those who are tired of fresh hop season and want to get on the hype train and spend more money than is advisable, Beermongers and ABV are releasing 6 DDH IPAs (probably hazy) today.

Is there anything about these double dry-hopped IPAs which makes them "hype train"?

They're from Brooklyn and feature broccoli and potatoes whimsically on the label. Also, if you're on the right side of 35, you don't particularly care ;-)

    Got it.

I am not interested in spending more money than is advisable on those beers. And neither is my other half. (See what I did there?)

And since I am not yet tired of fresh hop season, I opted to spend modestly on a delivery order from Uptown Beer Co.

Sean Burke (formerly The Commons) is leaving Von Ebert to start his own brewery - LandForm Beer in McMinnville. Sean was producing some great "Heritage" beers at Von Ebert that nicely displayed brett-heavy mixed cultures and locally foraged ingredients. I'm sure he'll continue his history of great beers at his new place.
