PROLOGE: Let me state that I support hand blown glasses just as much as I support hand crafted beer. And I do have my share of radical hand blown beer glasses but things are getting strange.

Today now more then ever I have seen the adaption of very strange beer glasses actually being a thing, culturally speaking. It's still kind of in a niche stage right now and is very small mostly appearing on Instagram but it's development seems stead fast and strong.

And I say strange because they deviate from tradition.

I am as much of a beeradvocate as I am a glassware advocate as some of you might have noticed from my WBAYDN BUT even I have begun to notice the strange beginnings into a shift where the glassware just may be becoming two strange and radical for me and let alone expensive.

But my question is what do you think about this potential shift and the idea of unique hand blown beer glasses ?

Here are two examples of what im talking about. Personally speaking the first pic to me looks more like something to hang on a tree BUT>>>>>........ I do respect the artist and his work, it's just not for me personally. Second pic is from someone different whos getting lots a great buzz and reviews but your better off donating an organ.

    Average price is $30

I'm actually surprised this is your post. That's my only comment. Cheers!

Those don't look all that strange. I assume it is running along the same track as cannabis smoking paraphernalia and will eventually become as varied and weird as that field. People like usable glass art and there's a bazillion personal styles out there

I for one dig this "shift" as it brings the artistry of one medium together with that of another to create something that is unique, complex and quite visually appealing.

I think I take bigger issue with the price gouging going on over at eBay for highly sought after glassware...

That first one strikes me as being absurd as well. A good example of form over function. Looks tough to drink out of and super droppable

When form is chosen over function we've made the wrong turn at the junction where utility and fashion part. Foolish folks all vote for art.

I use Instagram for beer releases and inappropriately young girls in bikinis, then I turn it off. I didn't even know to be worrying about glassware.

I wouldn't spend so much on something that might get broken in the dishwasher, but if it was a gift I might use it. Kind of whimsical, actually.

I see these glasses all the time on Instagram. My reactions are one of the following:

That glass looks annoying to drink out of, but it is aesthetically pleasing to me.

That glass looks annoying to drink out of, and it is hideous.

That would need a straw, or VERY careful tipping to avoid a beer shirt. (The law of gravity is not a mere guideline...)

But, on the positive side, it does take the orange juice beers full circle.

Have faith, the market will sort this out too. Besides, you don't need to buy them or even like them. Me, I like the whimsical variety (but only visually - good God I'd never use one myself)

Just my opinion, but I do not see this as a "potential shift" in any way, shape or form....the vast majority of craft beer drinkers are not going to spend that kind of money on those sorts of strange "glasses" - you are spending too much time on IG and it is warping your sense of "beer glass reality".....haha! I have over 1200 glasses in my collection, and those sorts of "glasses" have no appeal to me whatsoever....it is just for shock value and "click bait" - not a trend or shift at all.

If I was drinking a pint alone I'd still be embarrassed to use one of those glasses.

I don't even like drinking out of Tekus anymore. Tulip is the only glass I like to drink out of. That being said my wife hates the 10+ tekus in the cabinet that are only collecting dust!
