"That's unbelievably sick," vurt observed, deadpan. "If I were a customer, my jaw would have already dropped."

To be fair (and not snarky), that really is a nice looking box, and I am in favor of situations where graphic designers and illustrators have more work to do.

If only I didn't have to download yet another motherfucking app to take advantage of this. Too bad there's not a place somewhere on the internet where you could look at their options and order from your computer. Hmm, what would such a thing be called? Maybe a website? Why not make this available on their website!

That, bros, would truly be sick!

I have no problems with their design here. I might like it, even. But my (not even first world) problem ,( as I play my very tiny violin) is with the messaging that this will make my jaw drop as opposed to something they like. To me,, the creative act, the making of art, even when it is meant for consumption and commodification, a fundamentally selfish process. In that case, isn't the "right" thing to say - we love this box and it reflects us?

"We love this box and it reflects us" is self-aware, vulnerable, proud but not boastful, and almost contemplative. That doesn't match the Great Notion brand voice.

"An unbelievably sick unboxing experience [that will] make our customers' jaws drop" is urgent, breathless, over-the-top, and designed to induce varying degress of FOMO. That is very much the Great Notion brand voice.

Who does the graphic art for GN? I like it. It's weird , funny and sometimes quite tragicomic

Not that I'm surprised of course, but kudos to Great Notion for the most expensive shipping I've seen in pdx so far. $20 shipping for a case of their already pricey beer. Can't say I'm super impressed.

So far, it seems like most places in town offer free shipping if you order $50 or more for beer.

Yeah it seems excessive . It might be that they are really hurting financially with this semi-shut down..and now it is gonna continue until March

Could be, but it seems like most local breweries are in the same boat. Yet none of them seem to be this aggressive.

I dunno... I just think this is how they roll over at GN. They charge this kind of price because they're convinced they can get it. They're convinced there's so much demand for their beer, consumers will be more than happy to pony up $20 to have a case of their beer delivered to their door.

    They may well be right.

FWIW, Fort George charges the exact same amount for shipping - $20/case. de Garde charges $18 for one of their three-bottle boxes. I’m actually a little more curious as to how other breweries are swallowing shipping costs.

Yeah i like their beers also. They are very good, talking about the IPA, pils, DIPA stuff . But would struggle in my mind to pay $20 over the already high price. Are there really enough beer drinkers in Portland who will pay $20 extra for shipping over just driving a few miles?
    I would not

Well, are the other breweries using UPS, or just having their staff drive it over? And, how many of those breweries are shipping to other states for that double sawbuck?

Upright delivery is free if you purchase over $50. I know they're not breweries, but Arch Bridge and Bailey's did/ do the same. Personally, I'd gladly pay all three of those places to deliver beer before I'd pay GN $20 for a case of their already high priced beer.

I'm assuming places like Upright, Bailey's and Arch Bridge expect their driver to receive a tip, which for free delivery, I'll happily kick in.

GN can go jump in the lake before I'll pony up $20 for a case of their beer delivered to my door.

The places I mentioned have staff drive it over. Also, I think delivery is only in the pdx area. At least that's the case for the places I mentioned.

Right now, I think the $20 shipping charge is just in Oregon. The article didn't specify what carrier GN is using.

In fairness, $20 shipping isn't a terrible price if you live in Brookings or Gold Beach. I was objecting to paying $20 for addresses in pdx.

I actually thought $20 for non-local shipping is a good deal, especially for folks in PA and the Dakotas. All the CA brewers that ship within the state charge $20-25/ case as well. If this opens up an out of state market, good for them, there is plenty of demand for them!

In the first paragraph it says that they are shipping UPS.

It's a bit buried at the end of the paragraph, easy enough to miss.

I agree. If they continue to charge $20 to ship a case of their beer to out of state addresses, then that's absolutely a great deal. However, it wasn't clear from the article that that's what they're intending to do.

My OP was focused on the PDX area (which is why I mentioned Bailey's, Arch Bridge and Upright, who I believe only deliver in the PDX area). Charging $20 to ship beer to places like Baker City or Klamath Falls isn't the least bit outrageous. Charging $20 to ship a case to Lake Oswego or Concordia is a bit harder to swallow.
