And the 4th beer from today’s Sierra Nevada variety pack “Assorted 12/8/20” a Hop Bullet DIPA:

Bottled 11/23/20, more than 2 weeks prior to boxing...

Winner, winner chicken dinner we have a new leader on the board for most misleading packaging dating, clearly blowing past Cigar City which will at least have one variety on/or near the variety pack boxing date...

Congratulations Sierra Nevada! Another Brewery I can’t trust to truthfully label its product, and another Brewery from which I won’t buy variety packs...Anybody see the brats yet?

Took a detour into bourbon, with some palate-changing snacks...

And now, Upland's Oak & Rose...
Randomly at Total Wine, this is a 4/17/19 bottling... Self-described as a sour blonde ale, aged on chambourcin grapes from Oliver's Creekbend Vineyard, and aged in previously-used, neutral, Oliver Winery oak wine barrels... Tart and puckering, a little lactic, with a lotta tannic woodiness... Fruit underbelly is suggestive of black currant and sour wine with a hint of lemon pith... Tingly and sharp-feeling, medium-light-bodied; leaves a bit of an oaky tackiness on the drying finish... It's one of those beers that have a wine-like character...

    Cheers...

Bright w/ Simcoe and Amarillo from Tree House

The girl on the can always reminds me of Janis Joplin for some reason, maybe it’s the sunglasses.

Pours hazy straw colored with a thin fluffy white head
Aroma of wet grass and sweet citrus
Taste is citrus, pine, grapefruit, tangerine and hoppy. Fairly dry tasting.
Mouthfeel is slightly sticky and soft with a orange rind type of bitter finish
Overall it’s nicely it’s pretty assertive but has a nice balance of flavor and sweet/ bitter
    4.25/4.50/4.25/4.50/4.25. 4.34. rDev 1.6%

    Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Firestone Walker's Lager: a delicious German Helles-style lager with honey flavors, but enough yeast to make it crispy and easy-drinking
    2) Surly First Ave +1: A blonde ale with a Surly/German twist. Nice smooth honey, but earthy flavors while finishing pale, but malty.
    3) Alpine Beer Company's Nelson: A giant hazy beer made with Nelson Suavin hops with fantastic green citrus, pine, and tropical flavors. Extremely juicy and green.
    4) Lagunitas' SteroHopic IPA: A new release (so fresh it's not even on their website) from Lagunitas with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic hops. Has green gooseberry, pear, grape flavors while still leaning malty and slightly west-coast. Typical for Lagunitas, but a nice and unique flavor profile
    5) Firestone Walker's Chocolate Cherry Stout (5.5%): An easy drinking and simple stout with dry chocolate, cocoa powder, and chocolate cereal flavors. Didn't appreciate much of the cherry here.
    6) Castle Danger's George Hunter Stout (8.0%): A delicious chocolate stout with great rich chocolate, cherry, red velvet flavors. Balanced and an appropriate ABV in my opinion.

    Winners:

    1) Firestone Walker's Lager: Such a delicious German Helles-style beer. Better than 100% of American adjunct lagers.

    2) Alpine Beer Company's Nelson: Hazies aren't my thing, but this one is good. Nelson Sauvin provides a unique and delicious green citrus flavor. This one actually reminds me of PseudoSue from Toppling Goliath. Wonder if anyone else in California has had it and can confirm? This beer is quite remarkable

    3) Castle Danger's George Hunter Stout: A nice stout with complex flavors of rich chocolate, red velvet, black forest cake. Appropriately balanced at 8.0%. A good beer time and time again.

Have you had any of the above beers and do you agree with the winners?
Have you had Nelson from Alpine brewing? Do you like the Nelson Sauvin hop? Have you tried Lagunitas' new release?
