[IMG] Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup is Battle Beers:

    1) Surly's First Ave (5.1%): A golden ale from Surly Brewing in Minnesota that drinks smooth with flavors of honeysuckle, lemon, and earthy flower.
    versus
    2) Bahaus Wonderstuff (5.4%): A Bohemian-style pilsner from Minnesota that adds an American lemon citrus twist to it. Has traditional bready and salty flavors, but finishes with a hoppy lemon citrus note.

    3) Founder's Moon Rambler IPA (6.4%): A new hazy IPA from Founders in Michigan that has variety of hop flavors but brewed with a milk sugar sweetness. Not known for their IPAs, but leave it to Founders to know how to add malty flavors to any beer.
    versus
    4) Goose Island's Lost Palate (6.9%): A unique IPA from Goose Island in Chicago that has tropical & peach/mango flavors underneath a strong cinnamon and graham cracker sweetness. Incredibly flavorful and leans sweet.

    5) Castle Danger's George Hunter Stout (8.0%): An imperial American stout from Castle Danger Brewing in Minnesota that has sweet flavors of milk chocolate, cream, and roast traditional for a stout, but also has a dark chocolate and black forest cake flavor lingering underneath.
    versus
    6) Founder's Dirty Bastard (8.5%): A Scottish-style ale from Founders in Michigan that has intense dark and brown malty flavors. Lots of caramel, strudel, brown sugar, molasses, and syrup. Few dark fruit hoppy flavors. Intensely alcoholic and malty.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winners:

    1) Surly's First Ave: This is a unique golden ale that has a nice addition of European hops flavors to give it an earthy honeysuckle and flower flavor.

    4) Goose Island's Lost Palate IPA: This one-hitter was impressive. Usually fundraiser beers aren't noteworthy, but this one uniquely has a strong cinnamon and tropical fruit flavor. I usually don't order cinnamon with my IPAs, but this was quite tasteful. Sort of reminds me of Cinnamon Teddy Grahams or the brown sugar Pop Tart

    6) Founder's Dirty Bastard: It's hard to argue with this beer. Intensely and complexly malty and may have a touch too much alcohol, but it drinks incredibly flavorful. Didn't get any smokey or peat notes that a Scottish Ale might have.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you tried any of the beers and what did you think?
Have you tried Goose Island's Lost Palate, and did you find the cinnamon a supporting flavor to the IPA?
Does Founders Dirty Bastard live up to the reputation, or have you found a better Scottish Ale?

Here's some hazy a$$ beer from our friends in Michigan. Arvon. Had these guys before and really liked what they were doing. Jurassic Haze. Looks the part, no doubt. Peace.

#6 is Kicking Up Sand by Stockholm Brewing Co, who are getting into IPAs lately. I haven’t been massively impressed by them, but this is nice.

Was excited to try this one. Not a lot of banana flavor, heavy on the cinnamon. Little disappointed but overall a decent milk stout. Cheers all!
