Good evening BAs. In honor of the NCAA tournament and my team is a #1 seed I broke out the big gun... Russian River Pliny the Younger. I was expecting hype and disappointment BUT this beer is amazing and grateful to be drinking it. Cheers and #GOBLUE

[IMG] Tonight's Beer Tasting Lineup is a Blind Taste Test of Battle Beers:
(All were correctly identified in the blind pairings tonight)

    1) Great Lakes' Dortmund Lager (5.8%): A Dortmund Export-style beer from Michigan with subtle yet earthy honey and flowery flavors. Subtle, yet complex.
    versus
    2) Bahaus Wonderstuff (5.4%): A Bohemian Style Pilsner with an American twist. Pale malt, lemon, and salty bread flavors.

    3) New Belgium's Captain Dynamite Hazy IPA (7.7%): A new release from New Belgium with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Cascade hops that drinnks with orange & green citrus, pineapple, and slight tropical notes.
    versus
    4) Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing (6.7%): A hazy beer, now in the regular lineup, from this west-coast brewery. This beer has a juicy orange and pineapple flavor. Extremely zesty and clean.

    5) Great Lakes' Edmund Fitzgerald Porter (6.0%): A exceptional Porter from Great Lakes, named after the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975 on Lake Superior. Extremely balanced between chocolate, cream, and espresso roast.
    versus
    6) Founder's Porter (6.5%): The gold-standard and #1 Porter on BeerAdvocate. Drinks with a huge amount of chocolate & cream. Minimal roast, finishes soft and creamy on the palate.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Winners:

    1) Bahaus Wonderstuff: A great Americanized version of a Czech Pilsner. Such a delicious balance of American lemon with the traditional bready flavors of the European pilsner. Dortmund was fantastic too and one of my favorites as well, but less robust.

    4) Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing: This was one of the first hazy IPAs released by Sierra Nevada probably a couple of years ago. Maybe they've tweaked the recipe, but it's growing on me. Extremely juicy and spritzy, yet clean.

    6) Founders' Porter: How you can you call a winner between these two porters. These are #1 and #2. Founder's leans more smooth, creamy, and malty. Edmund Fitzgerald has slightly more espresso roast and balance. The better beer comes down to your preference, but both were fantastic.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you had any of the above beers?
Have you tried the Dortmund Export style?
Is Hazy Little Thing better than Captain Dynamite?
Which Porter do you prefer? Founders or Great Lakes?

    Cheers!
