Thank you Dave, I wish Old Mecklenburg was an easier drive fir me, or they open up distro. They got their foot stepped on with the self distro law here, so they pulled back. I hate driving Charlotte. The 1516 Heller Bock is well worth the buy if they make it available.

Sad news, BA. @scream died. He was in poor health recently, and he never woke up today. He was 71. He was a great friend to me, and many other BAs as well. I just talked with his wife. He composed a final post for WBAYN, to be delivered after this day arrived. His son or I will deliver that message in a forum soon.

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery -- 120 Minute IPA (imperial IPA)

With an unknown ABV (why doesn't Dogfish Head list it on their bottle labels or web site?), the head is pretty stellar for a high ABV beer; partially cloudy; orange-amber body; head is dense and creamy; sheets of finely grained foam coat the glass. Big malt nose reminiscent of a strong English styled ale. Rich and malty flavor; some ester presence; muted note of alcohol; some phenols; light bitterness. Heavy body rich in residual sugars.

Bottle date stamp: 'BOTTLE ON 07/10/20 1815'. Big improvement in the looks, a mild downgrade in flavor.
    -----------

The body appears clear with a solid gold-copper color and sports a thin white head. There is a spicy hop aroma along with notes of peach and apricot; caramel. The taste crams in a lot of hop bitterness yet also has plenty of rich, deeply sweet malt sugar sweetness; toffee and dried apricot flavors; twinges of citrus zing. Medium-heavy body; semi-sweet with a strong hop dryness.

If hop bitterness blended with a deep, rich malt sweetness is your thing, then this beer is bound to deliver the goods. Depth and complexity becomes apparent with every sip. Just when you think you have the taste and aroma components nailed, another sip brings new ones to the fore. I'm getting a lot of rich, well-aged orange notes right now. In any case, this beer is big and bountiful and sure to please.

Late note: and I see where this beer is usually sporting a 15-20% ABV (per Dogfish's web site - my bottle does not list the %). and the label states it ages well (no kidding, with this hop profile and ABV!). and this probably explains my slightly off-kilter frame of mind while typing, reviewing this beer, and grooving to a Blue Note Hank Mobley CD that just came in the mail from Europe...well, the point is, this is a powerhouse beer, done up nicely, and worth exploring in a myriad of ways...

Jesus...so sorry to hear about this.

A WBAYDN? stalwart and a proper foil for @vabeerguy.

He was a USN man, right? Commissioned???

Well, my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Wish I had a Voodoo Ranger to toast him with now...

Alpine OG Lemon Haze 6.5%. Wasn't expecting much. I'm happy that it's light for a hazy ipa. Taste really really fresh. Nice dry hop flavor. It has a hint of Pliny. It's lemony. I would drink a pint on tap.

Beer two is a new and excellent NE DIPA from Collective Arts. It is 8.0% and brewed with Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic and Simcoe hops. Cheers. [IMG]

I have summoned the virtual bartender to provide a round of Voodoo Rangers for everyone. He told me many stories about his military service, but I don't recall 100% which branch it was with, or which rank he achieved. I will post a link to his obituary once it is available.
