When it comes to beer names...I love it when the music world and the beer world collide.

What a time to be alive? All of these beers are a dream come true. I’m currently enjoying the notch alt beer, which I’ve been dying to try. It’s excellent. [IMG]

Mrs O and I are in Miami for a long awaited vacation. This was our view today .....

..... and then we made our way to J Wakefield Brewing, where I did a great job impersonating a beer nerd. This really nice IPL was part of the fruits of my labor.

    @LesDewitt4beer
I saw that show in Dallas. It was one of my first concerts: Iron Maiden Piece of Mind tour with Saxon and Fastway opening. I thought Saxon stole the show.

Quite a good Pilsner from Nashville's Fat Bottom. Also easy on the wallet: $11 for six 16-oz cans.

Too light, almost no flavour. A hint of citrus but that's about it. I knew I should bought something else.

Kicking off the day with a new to me beer from a solid hoppy Vegas Brewery.

    HopNuts Hopathon IPA

    Brewery Notes:
    7% ABV 65 IBU’s
Hopathon IPA is a true West Coast IPA with a light body with a strong tropical, fruity, piney punch to it. Sure to please the Hop Nuts! Available at both locations! (Note: Confirmed Citra and Mosaic hops with the brewer).

Appearance: 16 oz draft into a nonic glass. Clear golden pour, persistent mild carbonation, bright white head leaves fine bubble lacing. 4.0

    Aroma:
Very strong dank weed hoppy aroma, fresh pine tree needles. All backed bu fresh orange citrus. Can’t wait to dive in. 4.5

    Taste:
Mirrors aroma, though the citra takes center stage, incredibly sweet citrus. Sweet citrus works well with the dank pine, which competes for the lead with the citrus as I work through this great pour. Sweet malt emerges as well, caramel and sweet bread, more MW style. 4.25

    Mouthfeel:
Dry, alternates between sweet and bitter, works well. Light body, negligible carbonation felt, though it continues visibly. ABV hits you, clean finish, slightly sweet aftertaste. 4.25

    Overall:
This is a WC/MW IPA which bursts with aroma and flavor. Would dial down the sweetness for my personal taste, but that said it’s an excellent IPA. 4.25

Powered by my podcast intro music.

[IMG]Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (All 3 out of 3 pairs correctly identified in the blind taste test)

    1) Leinenkugal’s Honeyweiss (4.9%): A Krystalweizen beer from Wisconsin that has corn adjuncts and pale malt flavors. Sort of like an adjunct lager on steroids.
    versus
    2) Goose Island’s Natural Villain Lager (4.7%): A "garage" style lager from Chicago that has simple bread malt and yeasty flavors. Simple.

    3) Orangeboom Lager (5.0%): A pale German lager from the Netherlands with smooth lemon, earthy bread malt flavors.
    versus
    4) Bell’s Oberon Ale (5.0%): An American wheat ale with cloying and dried orange and wheat flavors. Significant spice.

    5) Three Floyd’s Foggy Geezer IPA (6.8%): A juicy and resinous hazy IPA from Indiana with orange, peach, strawberry and tropical fruit flavors. Slightly more resinous than hazy.
    versus
    6) Lake Time Brewery’s Haze of our Lives (6.5%): A hazy IPA from Iowa that has flavors of orange, lemon, and grapefruit citrus with pine. Decent bitterness, but leans hazy.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Goose Island's Natural Villain Lager:
This beer had simple bread and yeast flavors. Not sure what a Garage lager is but maybe someone from Chicago can give me the background on this one.

    4) Bell's Oberon Ale:
This one has delicious cloying but also dried orange flavors. Nice spice and dry wheat.

    6) Lake Time Brewery's Haze of our Lives: The name is a bit cliché but this is a good IPA with citrus and pine flavors.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you tried Goose Island's Natural Villain and what did you think? What is a garage lager?
Is Bells' Oberon your favorite wheat beer or do you have another?
Have you tried Lake Time Brewery's Haze of our Lives and what did you think?
