Really annoying experience today. Went to visit my parents graves with my daughter - long story short, we couldn't find them. This is one of these cemeteries where they have no gravestones, just flat plaques in the ground. I had the section and grave numbers, but nothing is marked so you have no idea where the section is, and there's no markings on the plaques so it was impossible to figure out where the section they're buried in was - this place is huge. Not to mention the huge amount of traffic which made the search even more difficult. After trying to find them for 45 minutes we ended up leaving, quite aggravating to say the least. So now I'm home and having a Spencer Trappist beer ..

While we were out that way, we stopped by St Josephs Abbey which is where the monks live. Gorgeous place - very quiet and relaxing. I couldn't find where the brew house is located but here's some other pics of the place.

Surly Double Vanilla Rye BA Darkness RIS, 12% ABV. Finally starting to drink down my cellar a bit, after hardly touching it for the past year.

Happy Monday! Worked until 1 pm and decided to leave early since it wasn't busy and Memorial day is a paid holiday for me. Walked 20 feet from my place of employment to my favorite bar for a burger and some beer. This is Head Hunter number 3 of 4:

    Sierra Nevada Dankful IPA

From a bottle marked PKGD 03/36/21

Poured into my tulip glass this beer is a caramel color with a cake like cream colored head.

Scent is subdued but I get biscuit, soapy and floral hops.

Taste is caramel and bread crusts. Major disappointment. I was looking for lots of hop resin and dank notes here and found none. This seems really more like an English IPA than anything else. More malt presence here than hop.

    Mouth is medium.

This one is a disappointment for me. I'm a big fan of Sierra Nevada but this one seems really misses the mark for me. When you name a beer "Dankful" I'm expecting resin, oniony, dank hops flavors and aromas. None are to be found here. I haz a sad.

Drinking the last fresh hoppy beer in my fridge, Nelson dry hopped Fort Point pale ale. Huge white grape, gooseberry, kiwifruit, grapefruity citrus, lemongrass, all that jazz, really great. I'll be missing the fresh Trillium hops for a little while. Cheers everyone!

Very dark brown body, nearly black; dense and creamy light brown head; thick, sticky patches of . Soothing, balanced aroma of soft cocoa and chocolate with a tempering note of bourbon; oak. Fine light chocolate flavor with a bold yet balanced bourbon presence; light bitterness. Heavy body; velvety with soft residual sugars; dry with alcohol warmth.

When I want a big boozy beer, this one does the trick.

Served at 58° F; bottom of can data: CANNED ON NOV 02 2020.
