Drying hops in the food dehydrator and the entire house smells like spicy citrus. Oh, those glorious Centennial hops! While the cones are in the dryer, enjoying this Imperial Stout from Tall Tales in addition to starting off a 5-day weekend. (Moving Thing 2 back to Purdue.)

Well, I’ll be hornswaggled…that Fayston’s says canned 10/31/2019…da fuh?! I guess I’ll have to start checking before I pony up near $20 for a 4-pack. That store is usually pretty good about rotating stock, but two of the regular beer workers left for greener pastures. Caveat emptor.

 

Both beers are awesome. My Gilligans Island fantasy would be Mary Anne. What is wrong with you dude?

I was telling some kids at the Restaurant about Rocky Mountain Oysters the other day and they didnt believe me. Ive had em and they're actually not bad until you think about the fact they are bull balls... Ive eaten just about everything on your list. I really like canned seafood such as smoked oysters and clams, mussels, sardines, spanish octopus etc. I recently tried Patagonia smoked mussels and they were really tasty. Not packed in oil but broth. Try em.

A few months ago, I told my story of the downfall of the great Cezanne jazz club in Houston. Abridged version...great location for over 40 years gets shut down, eventually moves to the basement (as much as there are such things in Houston) of a restaurant downtown. Its crap, from the vibe, prices, acoustics whatever...that was my first time trying the new Cezanne (one of my all time favorite places) and my first show after Covid. I ain't going there no more.

Well, here is another local live music gem. That didn't close, move or change anything, and is still one of the top spots for live music around. McGonigel's Muck Duck...yep love that name

Pictured is the warm up and sound check for the band. My buddy Thomas on bass...playing the bass that Charles Mingus once owned Playing with Raquel Cepeda and an amazing Latin jazz group. The Muck Duck usually plays folk, and Irish music, as its one of the better Irish pubs around as well, but have lately expanded their shows, for the better. This was an excellent show.
