What’s a vacation without a short hike to a waterfall?


We mapped High Falls directly instead of the trailhead listed as the Conservation society or something. Something didn’t seem right, so as we were consulting our technologies, a gentleman whose property backed the falls and across from which we were sitting came out. He was nice enough to direct us to the right spot, as we aren’t the only foolish people to make this mistake, though we were astute enough to recognize we made one.

So, being Labor Day, not sure what was open, but since we ventured to this side of the Hudson, figured we’d check out a brewery here, and Hudson Brewing Co was open. A decent brown ale IMO (despite other reviews) - Firkin Merkin for me and a flight for the GF.

 

Good day advocates and cheers to @Shanex for startin' up the thread today. The beers you have are wonderful!! So...Today is the big rumble btwx two freakishly awesome Stouts. Began notes last nite, ran 7.5 miles this morning and wasted no time getting these beers sorted out. The ratings and reviews are done! Simply put, Sam Smith's is sweeter and more wet than it's Irish buddy. Guinness is soft, creamier and way more bitter than Sam. IMHO they both are foundation stones for a lot of (non-barrel aged) Stouts because they've been brewed for so many years. Cheers folks! I'm having a blast! Keep on smiling!

 

Yes he did. Was also blown away by Bronson in the beginning of 4 for Texas.

450 North Slushy XXL Hawaiian Dole Whip (pineapple, pineapple ice cream, vanilla, marshmallow, rum flavor). I tried a few of these cocktail Slushy’s yesterday at a tasting with friends and they actually turned out much better than I expected given I’m not a cocktail guy. This one is no exception. Basically melted pineapple vanilla soft serve ice cream. Crazy stuff.

 

What did Charlie have against Jack?

The second Oktoberfest of the day is Narragansett Fest Marzen Lager. It's a nice one. Malty with notes of bread and light caramel. I rated it 3.93, well above its BA average of 3.65.

 

Leinenkugel's Collaboration Lager with Hofbrau Munchen. This is way better than Leine's Octoberfest.

 

On to a Proprietor’s Pale Ale, a style that barely exists any more.

This one has a bit of haze to it, but I can see through it. Nice life to the head. There’s a grainy to earthy aroma, and a mild stone fruit tea to the taste. I’m out of practice with the style, so I have to think on this one from that side of things. It’s being decently enjoyed, though I liked the brown ale better (apparently it’s Dead Style Monday this Labor Day).

 

Done grilling and about to start resting. Bacon cheeseburger with chips and watermelon.....oh Heady was welcomed to this little party as well. Be safe around fire and have a great afternoon!!!

 

Hope to be enjoying some of those in a couple days! …not the hamburger
